I don't know if this link will work, but I hope the animal who did this never gets anywhere near a football pitch again. Sadly there are a number of individuals capable of this in every league.

 

Yes, I read about this earlier today. Another example of people at their worst. It goes along with the acid attack the other day, and the man getting shot in broad daylight in a city street, and several other acts of violence where there hasn't been the briefest thought of the consequences.. This is Cameron's new society. The caring, sharing one, that was perhaps needed, and he completely forgot about moments after he was elected, has since been binned.

 

ODFO. Really? This is Cameron's fault? So many of you are so desperate to pin everything on him that you evoke pity in me. What a sad and empty world you live in where you have to turn a post about a vicious thug into a political point to support your preconceived ideas about a political party, ideas that you wear on your sleeve at every opportunity. Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous and unworthy. Shame on you.

I don't think it is entirely fair to blame DC for a thuggish behaviour. It has been happening since the dawn of time but I agree with your sentiments and level of disgust.

 

Perhaps you'd like to tell us of the steps Cameron's government have actually taken to make those on the margins of society feel more included Vin? After all, that should be one of the main aims of any government, wouldn't you agree?

 

No of course, but it is symptomatic of the so-called society we live in today. A society Cameron promised to change for the better.

 

It's quite interesting to view the response to the steel industry compared to the banking industry. I know there is a huge difference between the impact each will directly have on us. But somewhere in the not too distant past (1979) we were all encouraged to become very selfish and get on our bikes to better ourselves. We are paying the price now and the very people who told us to do so are very quickly telling other people from different communities they are not allowed to.

Anyway. That really has nothing to do with tje original post which can only be attributed to the individual having something seriously wrong with himself.

Hi Island saint. I didn't mean to hi-jack your thread or change the subject. I had been reading with disgust about that awful Hopkins woman about 20 minutes earlier and the feeling was still with me. But I don't take back anything. That amateur footballer's behaviour is symptomatic of the society that surrounds us today. Gratuitous and with no thought to the consequences or the victim.

 

Can we stick to football opinions and leave the politics at the end of a keyboard.

This stuff went on all through New Labour, Old Labour, conservatives, Whigs and Cavaliers and Round Heads. It has nothing to do with margins and everything to do with machismo. England is founded on thuggery and brutality.

 

Running a Sunday league side on the island I came across characters like the one jailed today almost every week who not only go out to injure people but also drive away any referees. The result is that when I was playing 30 years ago there were 3 divisions of 12 teams. Last season there was one division of 6 teams and this season only 3 teams entered. Something is very wrong with grassroots football in this country. At this level it is meant to be played for fun, but too much emphasis is put on winning at any cost at very young age so potential players will find something else to do.

 

****ing hell. I've just read a thread I thought was going to be about an incident I heard on the radio about a football thug and it's been turned into a political blame game.

Sorry TSS and Chilco, I respect you both, but you both have jumped on the political view here and totally un-necessarily.

This is about a bad tackle on a Sunday morning.

Terrible incident. I had to quit playing football a few years ago as I kept being on the receiving end of late challenges from behind. The referees would wave play on the majority of the time and be scared to ever use a red card.

What surprises me most is that it was so early in the game. The guy was obviously just sick in the head. It's not like it was a revenge tackle, where he lost his head completely.

 

I'm enjoying the Corbyn effect! obviously politics affects all aspects of life and at last it is!

 

Bloody hell, and I thought an old unreformed Marxist like me could get his conspiracy knickers in a twist, but TSS takes the prize. If you are arguing that we live in "moi,je" society (as the French say), then I'd agree. Whether this Sunday league footballer's behaviour can be attributed to Call-Me-Dave is a moot point! Come on, TSS, blame them for Foodbanks, benefits caps, bedroom taxes and just being bleedin' Tory gits who enjoy the odd pig. But this bloke is quite likely to be fully paid up member of the Daily Mail fan club who votes every election (Tory of course). Come the Revolution, comrade, we'll still have gits like this one.

Fair enough. I'm off the soapbox but still trying to make sense of it all. Maybe that's the point, you can never legislate for stuff like that regardless of who's in power.
