It's interesting that people are waxing lyrical about one pass to Shane Long the other night. This was the pass of the night, IMO. Also to Shane Long, also leading to a goal. Yet I haven't seen a mention of it on any thread. Odd. Flashiness pays, obviously. Vin
That's because Steve Davis isn't good enough for us or this league, despite the fact three seperate managers have picked him consistently. This is also despite the fact that for the last three seasons, we struggled to click as a team when either he wasn't playing or he wasn't playing well. It was sublime, though I do think Gaston's was slightly better.
This subject has been discussed many times since his arrival. I think Tadic is still at the same crossroads. Can he perform consistently in the cut and thrust of the premier league?
Never has a player done so little and been loved so much. He would have been slaughtered at any other club....perhaps we can sell Gaston to Liverpool He is a complete mystery...has the skills, made of finest porcelain, and lives in his own dreamy world. As Ron says, never any trouble and trains well (when fit), but has never quite found his place here or perhaps in the Premier League. My guess is that we couldn't sell or move him on, but he impressed in training and Ron thought 'why not' in a game that turned into a training exercise. He could build on this and worm his way into the team...I know that he has so much good will directed towards him from the fans...or perhaps it will be a last hurrah before a move in January. Good luck either way, Gaston...he's a good lad.
It's an odd business this liking/not liking players. After all. we don't know any of them. Bizarre now to recall that I used to really like Lovren. He would come and throw a shirt into the crowd or clap the fans with a smile on his face and you could be fooled into thinking that he wasn't planning a strop! Gaston always brings a smile to my face when I see him play, he just seems to want to do well and then he does something naff or gets injured or both, yet we still love him. This proves a long held hypothesis - football fans are bleedin' mad.
I think the one thing us fans admire is effort, I think that's why a lot of fans are in limbo with him, can't figure out if he's putting in the effort or not. It does give me goose bumps to think of a on form trio of Mane, Tadic and Ramírez in the attack

And in his first and maybe second season he was fine for Saints, an excellent performer. But Saints have progressed the expectation and Davis is becoming a limiting factor, these days. That's all. Davis could do a a very good job at several PL clubs, and he'll still serve us well until we can find a system that edges him out.
I think fats was taking the piss TSS - as a lot of people slate him despite him being our one most important/consistent players since signing.
I only slate Davis when he is playing as dm. It's not me really slating Davis, it's more me slating him playing there. As for Gaston I bet he willbe injured now..
Do players have a say or where they go? I know they can ask to be loaned out rather than benchwarm depending on circumstance. But if a club want to loan a player out, do they have much of a say over whether they go or not. The destination maybe.
I wasn't talking about anyone in particular - was just saying to TSS that I think FLT's comment was tongue in cheek. For what it's worth I'd rather only see him in one of the '3' in 4-2-3-1 or the most advanced in a midfield 3.
Well they have some sort of say yeah because you can't force a player to go somewhere. They have to sign for the club still.
