My point is that behavior wasn't an issue to Fergie once the player had signed for him.

If Ballo had been a good boy up until Fergie wanted him he'd have gotten away with his antics at OT if he was a good enough player for them once signed, if Cantona would have not been as good or as inspirational there's no way Fergie would have backed him after his conviction.

Fair enough although that is somewhat different to weighing up whether or not to sign someone.

Dont think Fergie would ever have signed Cantona if he'd done his Enter The Dragon stunt while still a Leeds Utd player and been convicted etc.

Probably not but we're talking about judging a player before signing them. what a player does after signing is different. However, you're right in saying Fergie tolerated it. Fergie wasn't bothered about signing RvP either.

What had RVP done?

He was a good player but his abilities have been massively overhyped over the years imo. If he hadn't been part of the first PL win for Man Utd (ie the last piece of the jigsaw) there is no way he'd have got the same attention.

Can't understand Fergie's "only 4 world class players" statement.
Depends on your definition of "world class" I suppose.

Yep.

"Krijgsman, who claimed she was kidnapped and then raped by Van Persie, has admitted to police that she had made up part of her story."

Almost conveniently no mention of brown envelopes <laugh>

thing is, if I could be arsed to track back and find it, you'd have probably said something similar at the time with him having been a Arsenal player. Can't see why you get so uptight about it though, it's not like every single Man Utd player as been a saint is it <laugh>

Not uptight. Not even an RVP fan, he's a Gooner who was a hired gun for United. I think it's out of order though to tar someone as a rapist when the girl in question admitted that she lied to the police and the authorities threw the case out. Let's be honest, the only reason you're doing that is because he, briefly, played for a football team you don't like. That's pretty low.

Not at all, if there is one person on here that doesn't allow club loyalty to get in a way of his opinion it is me! Gerrard got away with beating the DJ up in a similar fashion. Money talks.

I'll remind you of that the next time you're making a tit of yourself by trying to defend one of Astro's idiotic statements!

If you ever check on what I say when quoting those, you'll notice I never go along with his theories, I merely point out the factually correct parts when people are getting tied in knots. You (like many others) could try being less obsessed with him though, that would help calm your blood pressure ;)

There is often a difference between serious and piss taking comments too, something that is regularly lost on these boards, especially with a fair few of the visitors.

Possibly because your "humorous" posts aren't remotely funny. Possibly.

Looks like Fergie's definition of "world class" status is partially dependant on whether or not a player falls out with him.

"Shmeichel was certainly one and Giggs, for me, definitely. Cantona could have been even better but for the parts of him that you had to control.

"Rooney – that's four, and I think Ronaldo is going to be as well. He is playing in the hardest position in football, out wide, and he never refuses to take the ball and attack players.

"He is two-footed, he's brave and once his decision making improves, he will be world-class without question. Then there is Keane, and that's five"

Apparently Scholes only became "world class" after 2006.

Paul Scholes has re-emerged as a crucial figure for United this season and Ferguson said that he is close to making the list.

"There is an argument for Paul Scholes because he is the cleverest midfield player that we've ever had."
