Take away those labels and they could look pretty similar especially to somebody with little or no technical knowledge eg an english teacher, apparently even the teacher he had made it for warned him against showing it to anybody else (from some media reports). Now if true, did the teacher warn him because he knows all his colleagues are racists or because he thought somebody might mistake it as a bomb?

Police show up and are heard saying "we knew it was him" obviously because he is Mulsim.
Kid tells cops it's a clock for a school project. His teacher confirms this and tells cops yes he told everyone it is a clock.
Cops handcuff him anyway and take him to the station for interrogation.
Cops consider charging him with bomb hoax until public outrage makes them think otherwise.
Cops admit at all times he said it was a clock, they kept asking him what it was for, as his explanation it was for school was not enough of an explanation."
His own teacher did not call the cops, another teacher did, so that is not so insane, I get it, but after that is where it was wrong
