I just wonder how the police got involved, did they see him walking down the street and just think he looked suspicious or was he doing stuff that aroused the suspicion eg posting joke pictures on facebook of his project so that it looked like a bomb? Is there any back up from school that it was for a prearranged project? etc As usual there is more than one way to report a story and I just think there is more to this than the cops just suddenly deciding to arrest him.
I once got in trouble at school for making a clock out of a potato. I was always late getting in school assembly in the mornings, one of the teachers( he was from St helens)got bored of caning me for it and told me "if you want to get into school on time you need to get up at 8 0'clock" Got home and had to make one out of a watch and a spud, and he wasn't happy when I brought it in to school with me. And gave me an extra 6 whacks with the cane for being a cheeky ****.

Just seen that it was the teachers who were concerned that it may be the infrastructure of a bomb, it also appears that he had done it to impress his teacher so it wasnt as if school had asked him to make it or knew why he should have that sort of stuff. This kid seems to be a pretty bright geeky nerd, now lets honest he wouldnt be the first geeky nerd to bring something dangerous into school (how many shootings in last decade?) so you can maybe understand why school would be a bit nervous about it no matter what his ethnicity.. I knew of two incidents when I was a teenager, one was a very bright lad who did the almost script written blowing up the shed with his chemistry set and another not so bright chap who blew off a couple of fingers with a homemade weedkiller bomb. So whilst its still pretty bad the story is maybe not quite the stupid racist police line that you like to perpetuate.
