Hello, all. Everyone has that horse who has / is (delete as appropriate) taken/ taking (delete as appropriate) them to the doors of the poorhouse. Very close to the top of that list for yours truly has to be old boy Gosden’s NIGEL (5.20 Yarmouth).

This one comes from a very decent staying family but has thus far failed to win in 5 attempts – the last 4 of these races have seen him start at 9/4, 4/6, 2's on and 5/4! I don’t for one moment think he is ungenuine and Nigel has actually put up some decent performances in defeat – Winter Serenade who beat him a head has won again since, whilst the same is true of Senrima who got the better of Nigel by a neck. Meanwhile, you can forgive him his effort last time as he stumbled upon leaving the stalls and never fully recovered. Unless either of the unraced pair, in this Yarmouth heat, are above average you really would expect Nigel to finally win. Long term I remain convinced he is one that those ‘jumping boys’ would love to get there hands on. But what do we reckon about Nige finally getting on the scoresheet tomorrow?!? The price offered by those bookie chappies, of the morrow, will obviously decide if I’ll get involved in another Nigel punt.

    Good luck all.

LATENIGHTREQUEST 16/1 AYR 4.35 should be trying tomorrow or so I understand. Conditions to suit and market should tell all.

Signed Sealed of John Gosden's makes his 2nd appearance in the 8.20 Chelmsford maiden tomorrow after a good 2nd in a recent Newmarket maiden where he was sent off a solid 9/4 fave. I was initially suprised to find him in this race but given his breeding he should handle the surface ok.

Just pointing out he's running after some were taken with his debut run <ok>

News for Thursday, Cumani losing Sheikh Obaid horses to Varian. Postponed will go as well as 23 others and some juveniles.
Cumani seems to of done very well with his horses over the years and High Rise won the derby for them.

Quite surprised to hear this and as it is en masse I guess there must have been some falling out. I will say however I think Roger Varian is the best about at the moment and I can't off hand think of anyone I would rather send a 100k yearling to.

I have never been too sure of Cumani in that sometimes I think he is a patient and competent trainer and other times I think he just handicaps listed and group horses with a view to winning a couple of handicaps that often end up being near misses.

Morning, troops. My ‘will I or won’t I’ dilemma then over old boy, Nigel, is no longer an issue due to Mother Nature intervening at Yarmouth.

It’s a no bet one for me today but a pretty ordinary card at Chelmsford is livened up by a pair of consecutive contests later on. As I said, on his debut, Signed Sealed (can anyone say this horses moniker, incidentally, without breaking into song) is a half-bro to my old fave, Fencing, and I will be looking forward to the second run of his career (8.20) whilst in the staying handicap (8.50) Her Majesty, God bless her and save her, and Mr Henderson, God bless him and save him, lock horns. To be honest I couldn’t split them. Their horses that is not the individuals – I know who my fave is out of that pair! Meanwhile, I hope the ‘owners and trainers bar’ has been brought up to standard given the likelihood of these 2 dignitaries popping in for a ‘snifter’ post race.

    Good luck all.

Sir Barney .. where do you stand on that Corbyn type refusing to sing the National Anthem ? ... If he won't sing the Anthem do you think he would be happy to kneel in the presence of the forums favorite trainer ? .. would you advocate dragooning him into submission with the 'cat' ??

Ekbalco, personally I’m no Corbynite (is that incidentally what his followers are called???) but to be totally frank I can’t understand all the fuss about him not signing the National Anthem. I would imagine at the vast majority of functions most people (for one reason or another) don’t sing it. I hardly think it’s the ‘offence’ that some are portraying it to be. I think Corbyn is a car crash waiting to happen and that he may not last a year in his current job (and deffo, deffo not to the 2020 election) but don't think he should be brought down, or even bemoaned, for not having a damn good yodel to 'God save the Queen'.

Very sorry to read that Luca Cumani has lost all 35 horses that he had in training for Sheikh Obaid Al Maktoum (Sheikh Mohammed’s cousin) to Roger Varian, including Arc possible Postponed.

According to the article on SportingLife.com, Cumani was interviewed by Racing UK and suggested that he did have an idea that this was coming. Maybe that was why he looked so glum on Sunday rather than the miserable weather at the time I saw him.

I am a royalist and as proud as anyone to be British, however, I am not sure I would sing the national anthem in all circumstances, sometimes it is better to stand proud surely. Though Corbyn I think is one of those that is partly ashamed to be British and that is why he did not sing it, whilst I am not a fan of his and despise Labour I do think he has some good ideas but they are drowned out by his damn outright dangerous ones too.

Cumani is going to have a real struggle on now without that team of horses behind him. I always thought he was a decent trainer, I backed his Khayasi at a decent price as teenager to win the derby back in the day.
