I'm not a political beast but I do remember and lived through the nationalised industries, water, gas, electric, docks, road transport, railway, coal, public transport, air travel, prisons, postal services, they lost billions and billions of pounds, were controlled by the unions and were devastated by strikes and ridiculous wage demands which nearly busted and practically bankrupted our nation under all of our governments, we lost our automobile, ship building and countless other industries because big time Charlie unions tried to inflict left wing policies on our nation, they lost then and they have just signed up to political oblivion because our nation will never give in to left wing idealism.

Our nation? Other nations profit from Britains lost industy and privatised energy, transport and utility networks. vast profits running into billions are leeched out of the UK. £900m went to EDF/GDF as profit. Iberdrola in Spain took hundreds of millions out of the UK ... And on that goes.

I have quite a long memory.

Banking crisis? Thatchers support of the economics of Milton Friedman would have meant NO intervention in the banking crisis created by the very markets she created.

Britain did not lose its industry and utilities. It was sold off, or sacrificed due to Thatcherism.

Britain now barely owns anything, and even boiling a kettle = More money to France. Ironic when Tories paint themselves as patriots. The truth is that the Unions trying to protect British jobs were patriots versus the politics of profit before people and there is no such thing as society.

politics ... everyone has their own opinions and some of the comments make me smile on how people have conceived the past... what it meant / lost/gained /etc
the biggest error was allowing foreign companies to take over so much of our industries especially in the past decade Cadbury's and Boots to name 2 main stream household names..
BT GAS AND ELECTRIC AND THE WATER should have had more control over purchasers or a 49 % holding so at least gaining some of the profit, bit like the PO at present, as for the railways and docks? well in a way good the docks went, but, not the railway .. we should claw back about 40% of the railway instead of spending trillions on modernising it ..

UNIONS never really had time for them .. .. Scargill full pay all his working life and the people who employed him were on the bread line .. .. .. £200 a week go on strike for a month and lose £600 and you will get an extra £2 a week hey that's £104 a year and only about 6 years to get back what I lost, oh **** 2 years on £202 per week go on strike for +£3 a week for a month and crikey that will take me for ever to get back etc etc etc Scargill retires and lives happily ever after, the strikers well they eventually retire and live off what they muster.....

I think unions are a potential life saver. What use is jobs if they exploit peope, Bon physically and financially. At least Corbyn put people before profit which I prefer as a concept.

As for state ownership. It is my belief that where there is a monopoly it should be owned by the state. Water boards, powerstations, and bus and rain companies. All should be put back into public ownership.

As for selling off RBS far below what we paid for it to Osbournes rich ****er friends is a disgrace!!

Osbourne, Cameron, Gove and Theresa May (an embarrassment to this country and not helping women in politics) they are all posh pricks and have less soul than Adolf Hitler.

Corbyn is the only one who can get the bullingdon club and their rich friends out of Westminster and therefore we must back him with all our power.

If we didn't have big business and a big business man backing us Bristol City FC would be dead in the water, don't knock profit, enterprise and job creation, that's what pays for all of our needs through the various forms of tax that most of us pay.

Without a vibrant economy you will have no health service, armed forces, civil services, education, democracy would go out of the window, no votes, we would end up like the Greeks, ruled by the left, unemployed, chaotic, busted, broke and under the control of foreign entities, all the trade unions bosses and leftist politicians would blame the world for the problems and run a bloody mile, deserting their members and the public at large to suffer.

MTG re RBS ... I LOST >£7500 value ON THAT DEAL also lost £4000+ on BRADFORD AND BINGLEY just days after having a cheque for £900 cashed for the rip off scrip issue.
with RBS I still had the shares, and over the years have gotten it back to just £1000 "lost" but paid the government and Barclays a small fortune to do it making maybe £50 - £100 profit each time I bought or sold that's something like £ 900 in brokers fee's and >£400 in gov tax

The unions did not care, what happened to the services. As long as they got there way.
The one person to kick ass was Maggie the best pm in my lifetime.

Maggie deserves to rot in hell. If she ever makes it onto a note I will refuse to carry or receive any. She is everything that is wrong with the Tories and right wing politics.

Actually, Corbyn's plans to renationalise the railways and utilities do not frighten me - to be honest I was amazed that they were ever privatised. Only Branson has made a decent go of it.

What really appauls me (and for this I could never vote for him - even if the only alternative is Cameron) is his appeasement foreign policy - entering into discussions on the Falklands when none of the residents want to revert to Argentina (can you blame them?) and 250+ of our troops died to keep them British. You can't get much more of an insult towards the men and women of the armed services - or the islanders themselves (mind you he hates the Armed Services so maybe that's no surprise). And he has declared that he wants to hand Northern Ireland over to the republic. If anyone knows anything about Irish politics or the 'troubles' they will recognise that if Corbyn thinks that will solve all the problems over there that have festered for centuries by dumping them onto a bankrupt Irish Republic then he is living in fairyland. The rights and wrongs of the partitioning in the 1920s is a matter for debate, but the majority population of the province are unionist and pro-British - to ignore them would be yet another insult.

Above everything I am bitterly disappointed. I voted Tory at the last election - not because I like them (I don't, and it hurt), but because I couldn't bear the thought of Milliband driving the country (and the nations that depend on us like the Falklands) over a cliff. I was hoping that the Labour party would put forward a moderate leader that I could believe in and get behind - in fact they nominated a dangerous dinosoar who hates Britain more than Argentina or the terrorists do. He hates everything we British stand for - how could anyone ever vote for him to lead the country?

My view was she was evil. Working for the NHS, charities etc you have to have empathy for others and she saw lives, industry and communities as expendable.

She was brutal spiteful woman who turned the police force on elements of the populace and attacked minorites / political groups with legislation via criminal justice acts. Even sexuality was a target for legislation. It was hate politics.

The banks and the rich of course were free to to do as they wished, indeed Britains industry was sold off to the few v the many owning the Countries assets.

She also supported murderous regimes, gave safe haven to murderous dictators - Pinochet and backed the South African Government and apartheid.
