As per the title, less than 3 weeks to the start of our season and what does the team look like? As it stands, right now, with the players we have, what is the likely starting 11? Any duty rumours over further signings? It's gone a bit quiet on that front.
I don't think we are the finished article as yet, 3 or 4 quality signings are needed. I think we have enough defenders but would like a midfield hard man and a proven striker plus Bellers of course. With Malky's work ethic effort will succeed
There's that "work ethic" tag again. Sorry Rhondda, but as I said on another thread, unless we get at least one class marquee signing (as well as Bellers?), I reckon that work ethic is more likely to ensure we don't fail in this division, rather than get us to climb out of it. Having said all that, I remain convinced that this will happen, and have put my money where my mouth is with WH. Promo by any route is the target, but WHU, Leicester et all could get a big shock at the top of the pile come May.
No need to be sorry Sparkey, it was my failed play on words from his signature "Egni a Lwydd" effort will succeed.
WoL says we are in for Kenny Miller and still hunting Goodwillie. Malky says he wants 3 or 4 more but won't be rushed. No mention of a new midfield destroyer yet.
It wasn't a failed play Rhondda, I got it. Until I see these 3 or 4 signings, I remain concerned, after all if any of our targets are not here by the start of the season, then injuries (or whatever) to other players in the current club might make our targets unavailable.
Blodders, I think most of us are a little concerned but if we look back to the first game last season we didn't have enough players for a full set of subs. I don't think we'll have that problem this time around.
I'm not sure we can improve on last season and think we'll be finishing around 8th with the current squad. Miller may be useful but he's by no means a top drawer signing if we get him. Earnie should get around 15 goals, not sure where the other goals are going to come from
I've said it on here before taff - Whitts will get 20+ again this year......that's if he isn't with Forest or Ipswich - FACT!!
Last year we were going to out score everyone, if they scored 2 we would score 3. Didn't happen. In the League our big 5 scored Betty 18 Whitts 11 Bellers 11 Chops 9 Burke 5 Earnie scores 15+ I think that Whitts will do better this term, missed a few pens last time and if bellers comes back I expect 10 from him. Who ever is Earnie's partner I think he'll get more than Chops 9 and I'm sure that Conway will get more that Burke's 5. Not so bad if you look at it that way.
Oldsparkey, I hope you're right about Whitts, if we have a more attack minded approach Whitts should be in double figures but i don't expect him to better his tally of 2 seasons ago. I really am trying to be optimistic but failing miserably at the moment
Taff - so you don't expect him to better his tally of 2 seasons ago? How many do you want pal? He scored 25 that year - I'll take that thanks! Leicester have offered £5M for Maynard from the Wurzels. As good as he seems, if Maynard gets 25 goals this season, I'd be bloody amazed. On that basis, Whitts must be worth £10M because he has super football skills to go with the goal scoring. With the right defensive midfielders around him, Whitts is the sort of player that'll get us into the Prem.
Sparks, I'll take 25 but don't expect more but feel he won't get anymore than 15. Again it depends on what format Malky goes with and where he plays Whitts. I really think you're not getting my point, it's not just about Whitts. I do not think we're going to get the amount of goals we need. I'd love Whitts and Earnie to hit 30 a piece but it ain't going to happen. If Goodwille stays out of klink and comes down he may well get the goals needed. I don't think Miller is the answer. The defence should be good enough and we still need more in midfield. Given Malky is still pursuing Bellers and has intimated he's going to start spending I think my pessimism may lift but I will reserve judgement until the full team is in place. At the moment I am a tad concerned.
Ahh the football merrygoaround at its best guys, like i said in an earlier post, we would all be better off going into hibernation during the summer and waking up 2 days before the start of the season. We will be ok and i expect another 3 or 4 to be onboard come season start, Bellers will be back and i can also see a big midfield signing happening, i think the defence is sorted and i hope Gerrard is given a chance. We shall see but i expect us to be up there once again, although this time i expect us to have the Cahunas in place to see it through to the end. KTF
I heard a rumour, I don't know how true, that the coaching staff (i.e. MM) see D'arcy Blake and or Gerrard as defensive midfielders not so sure about Gerrard, but if they can keep D'arcy on a decent fitness regime, and out of McDonald's under the right coach I think he could make the move...........as usual, as Bluebirds we live in interesting times
Now that's what I like! I really think we're going to surprise a few people this season - all this talk about WHU and Leicester is just fine by me - let 'em get on with it. Taff - no offence meant pal - just a bit of forum discussion. Now get out of that bloody miserable mood you're in!.........
I too think that Whitts may have a great season though not necessarily scoring as many as two seasons ago. I suppose it'll largely depend on how MM sets us up.
If we can get in a quality holding midfielder to win the ball and play it I can see Earnie scoring a few this year, same goes for Whitts, Conway and whoever else we play up front. Trouble is, that's the one position where we are found wanting and there are no names being mentioned to fill our obvious void. If, as Proph says, Gerrard or Blake can play there (I think Blake maybe could, but Gerrard doesn't have the skill or passing ability IMO) then I'm all for it, another cost saving exercise that hopefully frees up more cash for a potential Bellamy deal.
