I was wondering when someone would create a post like this ...... those sad, sad pictures certainly brought a lump to my throat.

It is very easy and popular to react angrily towards our own government when pictures like this are published, but let's not be seduced by them - Britain's immigration policies did NOT cause that poor boy's death, and even if we opened our borders to everyone who came along, he would STILL be dead.

Lets be REAL about this; If you are in Syria, Iraq, or even parts of Libya, you are in mortal danger. If I were there I would be making EVERY attempt to get my family out. HOWEVER (and this is my main point), once you reach Europe - or even Turkey, you are SAFE - you are outside the conflict zone and free from harm. There is no reason for them to fight and scramble, as they have been doing, in order to get to one member nation or another, be it the UK, France - or Germany (the preferred nation of choice it seems), apart from ECONOMIC reasons. They should be housed in safe, clean centres, whilst their preferences and immigration applications can be processed.

Lets not also lose sight of the FACT than amongst all those desperate people, there are a few EXTREMELY unpleasant folks who are using the chaos to slip into our nice, safe western world with the sole intention of wreaking havoc and terror and spoon-feeding their poison into whoever is gullible enough to drink, listen and believe - and there are a fair number of those.

    The solution?

In my eyes there are a number of simultaneous issues which need to be tackled urgently, and unless they are, this sad scene will be repeated many times (as it already has been - we just weren't shown pictures before).

    1. Immediate safety for refugees fleeing conflict (food, medicine, shelter - basic human needs)
    2. Tackling the initial CAUSE of this - the conflicts in Syria and Iraq mainly
    3. Longer term accommodation for the people rescued (ie what I would call resettling, or 'proper' immigration)

Of all these, the easiest (and most important) is the first point. We have PLENTY of food, medicine, blankets, tents etc in the EU to provide basic accommodation to the people who arrive here. It is not very much to ask governments to club together to fund a tent, food, drink and emergency clothing for ALL of them. After all, they spend BILLIONS on bailing out banks, or Greece.

Tackling the root cause of this will be far more difficult, and I'm afraid that we (the West) are going to have to go to war at some point, but just WHO are the good guys in all this?
    - Assad? No. An old-fashioned middle-east dictator. Rules his country with an iron fist and human rights are virtually non-existent. His forces are fighting against Islamic State AND a western-backed rebel force represented in London.
    - IS (Islamic State)? Definitely not. I would rather call them SATANIC State rather than Islamic - whilst identifying the good guys in this mess might be tough, identifying the bad guys is not. This group are utterly horrific and must be destroyed at all cost.
    - Turkey? Possibly. NATO allies and European wannabes. They are attacking IS, but they are also in armed conflict with the Kurds - who are currently the only effective force taking on IS.
    - Kurds? Possibly - they HATE IS, but their eventual aims are for an independent Kurdistan, formed out of bits of both Iraq and Turkey, against whom they have been fighting a guerilla campaign for years.
    - Iraq? Possibly, but they are weak and their forces unreliable. Although they 'tolerate' the Kurds for the moment, it wouldn't take long before Kurdish nationalist aspirations become too much for the Iraqi government to bear.

So it's not clear with whom we should ally ourselves - it's virtually an 'all against all' situation.

What I am saying in short, is that we DO have a human duty to help these people when they are in mortal danger, but we do NOT have a duty to allow them to settle permanently - although they must not be sent back into a conflict zone.

To be fair, most of them (I would guess) would actually prefer ultimately to return home to a stable, peaceful Syria anyway - once that can be achieved, but until it is I'm afraid we have not seen the last of pictures like that of the tragic little boy.

Let's take the politics out of it for a second - because all 95% of politicians care about is getting re-elected.

Morally should we wash our hands of it - the answer is surely no?

However, what's the solution? The answer to that is there is not a "golden bullet" that will solve everything. We (and every other EU country) have to accept a fair share of refugees. These are different to Economic migrants who are only trying to get to the EU to either get a job or claim benefits.

We have to find a better way of processing the people who want to get in - i.e sort out real refugees from economic migrants

Ultimately we have to fix what's happening in their original country - in most cases those problems have been either caused or made worse by Western Governments foreign policy.

Note that I said "I'm happy for us to allow anyone in that is seeking asylum". People seeking asylum NEED somewhere to live. Coming over purely for work or better pay is a different matter entirely.

Isn't what we have done in the first part of your sentence, the consequence of the second part!

This was caused by Bush and Blair and I would happily hand the smirking buffoon over to ISIS myself, however because of their incompetence we are too scared to go and sort these issues out as we end up looking all the worse for it. We happily invaded Iraq in the most dubious of circumstances, yet now we won't help these countries to get rid of the most heinous group of terrorists who are committing appalling atrocities on a daily basis.

UK + BELGIUM+HOLLAND+SWTZERLAND is the same area as Germany density Germany 233 per km sq uk combined 300
UK + BELGIUM+HOLLAND is roughly the same area as Italy Italy 192 kmsqd / uk combined 333
UK + BELGIUM+HOLLAND + Hungary + Austria is ROUGHLY the same area as France . france 111 / uk combined 250

so it is plain to see France Italy and Spain 92 per km sqd have the room for them the target should be no more than 350 per square km...

As I said in an earlier post, there are many safe countries with vast empty spaces where migrants could go outside of the EU but those countries are unlikely to accept them.

What is the reason they have changed direction and are heading for Germany? Is it because Germany are fast tracking them to receive EU passports?
Guess where they will head when they get one - and we will have to give them as much right as the Poles etc to come here and receive all our entitlements .
Merkel has played a blinder by acting the saint saying they will take the majority of them knowing full well they will head here with an EU passport and free movement.
Ask yourself why 2 million Poles/Romanians are in the UK when they border Germany - probably something to do with the fact that you have to reside in Germany for 2 years before you can attempt to claim any kind of benefit!!

This whole scenario is an ethnic nightmare waiting to wreak it's havoc on all who participate and although I have sympathy, but only for those that have a genuine desire to find a new peaceful life, my thoughts on the subject may cause some ire from others, but what the heck.

Until the source countries creating all this strife get their own internal houses in order and spend money on peoples needs and rights rather than on weapons which then go out and kill their own citizens and throw destruction of all infrastructure into the mix for bad measure. The one common denominator is plainly obvious to the rest of the world but for some reason or another it doesn't register in the minds of those who follow a certain doctrine which purports to have all the answers for mankind. I can't understand why any government, or leaders, willingly accept the rape and destruction of their country and it's people, when following the normal criteria for a successful life for your country and it's citizens is so much easier.

Why has the western world become such mugs in blindly accepting the infusion of peoples, including many who will wish you harm and never completely integrate in to daily life as you know it , just because our humanity is far outstripped by their leader's stupidity, human rights violations and all the other negative aspects of the past life these people are trying to offload. I know what starting a new life in a new country involves and when I see the mountains these people have to climb I realise how fortunate I was to come to Canada where they spoke the same language, had the same values and integration was a piece of cake.

In a week where a poignant and tragic picture of a young lad lying dead on a beach has torn at the heart strings of people around the world the background of hatred and murder that created the need for this lad's family to flee for a better life has not, and never will, change. Do you think for one moment that the root cause of all these problems is going to change tomorrow with the acceptance of as many refugees as possible by European countries? The real bad news is that you all know that the crises that are the background source will never change until the peoples of those areas take control of their own destinies and prove to the rest of the world that they are capable of achieving that goal and living in peace with all others becomes the order of the day. Reaching that perfect place is difficult at best but in this case I can never see it coming to pass.

Having countries from around the world getting together to assist these refugees is a very caring and good thing to do, and I applaud all that participate. However you must remember that the reason behind why they are arriving in their thousands on your doorstep is mainly because of war and persecution of some kind in their home country, and so by taking the humanitarian route there is the possibility you are falling right in to the hands of the people who created this mass refugee problem by giving them exactly what they want, and that is fewer people left to subjugate, or put up a fight.

I truly wish that somewhere out there is a permanent solution to the gut wrenching problem of political refugees or that someone could just wave a magic wand and fix it immediately but that is just a pipe dream. Bringing hundreds of thousands of refugees to the shores of Europe is not the answer and in fact it may cause more problems than it solves.

    Is something important happening ?

Migrants Cheered As Trains Arrive In Germany
Thousands of refugees are given a warm welcome in Munich, as their long and desperate journeys from warring countries concludes
    .
Up to 7,000 people, many of them refugees from war-torn nations, are expected to arrive in Germany by the end of Saturday.

Several trains have pulled into Munich already this evening - each carrying about 450 people - and clearly relieved migrants, many with children, were applauded and welcomed by locals.
Some Germans also offered small toys to young refugees as they made their way through the terminal.
In Munich, Arabic-speaking interpreters have been helping refugees at emergency registration centres, a stark contrast to the disorder and confusion many had faced in Budapest.

Send em back to the friendly countrys on there borders, ahhhh they don't want to go there either.

We've taken more than our fair share of refugees in this country.

The problem is that housing millions in neighbouring countries is only a short term solution. They cannot get jobs and live a life in the migrant camps. The reason people head for EU is that long term they are able to get a job and work to earn their keep.

These migrants are refugees and also human beings, I don't believe that I am superior because I was born here and if I was born elsewhere why shouldn't I have the same right to work hard in school, go to another country to study and work In a well paid job?

Infrastructure being insufficient is a scapegoat for underspending in recent years on houses and other infrastructure.

When bastards like Rupert Murdoch control the media, the bullshit propaganda turns people into little englanders.
