Always dull during the International break. Just curious about people's first match at either Roker Park or SOL.

Mine was Sunderland v Luton, Roker Park 20th October 1990. My old man took me and my brother for our first match,

We won 2:0 on a sunny day! Part of me wishes we'd been ****e as may have saved me years of hope and heartache!

Always remember the wooden and metal seats, the atmosphere and Gabiadini scoring.

Apologies if been done before but know there's a decent spread of ages on here now.

****sky, Wearside Pride and your other alter ego, probably best if just one of you answers.....

Also interested in a certain United fan's first Sunderland away experience and Wij/QWOP's!

Rotherham at home. FA cup game in jan 1982. Emlyn Hughes was their player manager. I recognised him from Question of Sport

Bought the match day program from an on line distributor last year

I've still got the programme. Signed by all the players on the day. My Dad rang the club and said he was bringing his lads to their first match. We got to meet the players and all sorts! Try that now and they'll just say "that'll be £90 please"

    Cheers fella

1967, against Man City. We won 1-0. I think it might have been the only time I saw Charlie Hurley play.

Honestly cant say. My dad took me very early. Had a wooden plank with ropes and used to hang it on the railings so i could see over. Always right next to the dugouts. Then a bit later.

As kids we used to hang around the ground on match days.

Sneaking into the cliff or the derby and pester the big lads for a swig of their beer. Either got a swig or a clip round the head.

Then wait as they always used to open the gates fot the last 20 minutes. So we.d all pile in.

Several of my family used to work at roker park. So i treated it as a play thing. Sneaking in at night times for a kick about and a chase etc.

In them days the game and teams were im material to me. Just a kid having fun.

i can't remember who we played for my first game. Me ma dropped me off at my uncle Jim's in Hebburn and he took me along with my two older cousins. i was 8ish, and remember being in the fullwell end but that's about it! it would have been late 70s. his house was painted red and white, so its fair to say he was SAFC through and through.

i also remember me old man taking me to a night match not long after that. he'd got tickets through a mate for posh seats in the main stand. again, nee idea who we played or the result! i do remember that was my first taste of bovril and not liking it too much. but it was ****ing freezing and i burnt me gob trying to knock the stuff back.

Mine was a 1-0 win against Oxford United in December1975, Porterfield scored in the last minute. I'd pestered my Dad to take me for ages, and he finally gave in.

I remember that game. Oxford I think had done us 1-0 at their place, with a late goal either earlier in the season or the season before. My mates had wanted to leave with 5 minutes to go but I told them to stay as I just knew we'd get our revenge

Sure i was at that game against Luton and David Rush scored?
My 1st game was opening day of season in 76 against Arsenal. Was 2-2 and Monty was in goal on a nice sunny day in the Roker end on me dad's shoulders. Apparently it was Mcdonalds 1st game for them after moving frm ncle...

Same year as me... I started going to Roker with my G'dad / Dad 1975-6 season starting with Chelsea.
I thought it was brilliant... The atmosphere was ALWAYS unbelievable and i was under the impression that Sunderland were invincible as they never lost at home that year... Dropping points only to the 2 Bristol clubs.
I quickly learned over the coming years that Sunderland WERE indeed very beatable and that life was to be a ****in amazing roller coaster!
I love telling my lad about the atmosphere of 'back in the days' and how the 'Roker Roar' was almost a 'goal head start, but the only matches he has been to that comes anywhere near are the last few games of the Poyet 'great escape'... If only it could always be like that eh !!

Let's not forget though that Roker park was crap and had zero atmosphere in the latter years. Ever since 82 and the Balfour Beaty signs went up in the Roker end...

Think it was 67 mate. It was my mates birthday and his old man took 5 of us for his birthday treat.

Good memory on his white boots though. I wouldn't have a clue about that. All I remember was the score.

1983 against Norwich in milk cup. Night game. I was only 9 so not sure how I was allowed on a school night. We lost 2-1 but scored in last minute and nearly forced extra time. Would have been an even later night.
