Cant take the transfer thread any longer. So it looks like Jelavic is going/gone. Who is out there? Who do we want? I'd really like Carlton Cole. He'd be ideal for us. Only striker talk in this thread ta.
As a free agent, Cole can sign after the deadline, I assume. He might be an option if we don't get whoever Brucey really wants. It wouldn't be pretty, but he's effective. Most of the players we get linked with are lacking in physical presence, when what we're missing is a proper central figurehead who the likes of Akpom, Abel, Aluko etc can feed off. I'm struggling to think of many who might be both available and within realistic reach.
Crouch? How has he got involved with a move from Stoke? Isn't he first team anymore? For me Vydra, I wanted us to sign him for the last 2 years, but nope. I also said we should have gone for Deeney & last season Wilson. It's the age old theories that we should take a gamble on a lower league striker, but often end up with Sagbo & Proswitch, I know it's not spelt right, types!
I think Crouch would be an ideal move for us. We attack down the wings and often play long balls up as well and he'd be ideal. Can't see Stoke letting him go though as he's a good plan B for them.
Jelavic out, Carlton Cole in a on free. Wilson on loan would have been a good option, however with Man Utd selling Hernandez and bringing in Martial from Monaco, I can't see him being available. It leaves them with only 3 strikers and with League, Champions League and both cups they'll need to keep all 3 at least, if not sign another striker. I'd be quite happy with Akpom, Hernandez, Cole and Lier as our strike force. We even have the option of Aluko playing in behind Cole if we are desperate, would be a good option away from home.
Gyasi Zardez might fit that build. His stats this season don't look as good as the previous bc they had to move him to the wing bc of other signings.
Edit: Callum Wilson not James Wilson in the bit above but this season I'd take James Wilson if he becomes available!
Not really. His hair is "unique". He does it so his grandmother knows who he is when she watches him play. He is just the only name I can think of that hasn't been mentioned that might fit those requirements.
Who do we want? Or who can we get? Who I would like and who we could get to come here are two different things.
I am loath to support the signing of Charlton Cole for no reason other than it makes real sense and that alone is enough to make it not the slightest bit probable.
Cole would be useful in this Division, Crouch I suspect is a none starter and wouldn`t drop to the Championship unless you paid him silly money. Vydra would the permanent striker I`d like to see us go for, with Cole as a free agent also coming in, but don`t know what funds would be available.
