While we are lolling in the realms of rumour here's one thats taking a bit of a hold on some sites. Ipswich have thought to have made a bid for our Peter, and are likely to return with an improved offer after the first was rejected. Again, it's the silly season and I would be surprised if we let Whittingham go. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/66195-Peter-Whittingham http://www.cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=53749 http://www.itfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10272~2393037,00.html Likely to be instrumental to our plans this coming season, and Malky has said that himself.
Can't see it happening. I believe we have the nucleas of a decent team and with a couple of additions we should be in with a shout of the play-offs. Whittingham is central to that and only a silly offer would tempt Malky.
I wouldn't want to see him go but on the other hand if we got silly money for him would it be given to Malky to strengthen the sqaud as a whole? Couldn't see Whitts wanting to go to Burnley anyway.
I really don't think this a goer, they got Chops on the cheap because he simply isn't the player he was over the last season. If they are basing what they paid for him against what they are willing to pay for Whitts, then they are going to come in woefully short of the "silly money" that every player will go for. Would Whittingham want to go and play with the likes of Chopra knowing how his behaviour had an adverse effect at Cardiff, thats another thought!
If Whitts is allowed to move on (does anyone know if that's what HE wants?), then Malky better have a creative midfielder in mind to replace him. As good as he can be, I wouldn't want to have to rely on McPhail re-discovering his old form to provide the killer pass for Earnie or Bellers if he comes. Can't see anyone else at the club at the moment who could perform that role. The work ethic that we are told Malky promotes is a policy that is more likely to ensure we don't fail in this division, rather than climb out of it.
Sparkey Norwich's work ethic didn't do them any harm with the number of late goals they scored. I now we notched a few late ones but conceded more which contributed to us not getting auto. Although he doesn't have Whitt's goal scoring ability, Cowie is a very good passer.
Ipswich can't afford him, it's as simple as that. He is worth far more to us than anyone else would be willing to pay.
There are a number of reasons why you can't afford him: 1) He is integral to our team this season. He is worth more to us than you can afford to pay for only one player. 2) You couldn't afford his wages. To convince Whitts to take a backwards step career wise, you would need to be throwing serious ammounts of cash at him, more than you can afford to pay any one player. You should concentrate on trying to sign players you have a chance of getting, but if you want to waste your time running up blind alley's, be my guest.
Paul Jewell " You can make your 1st bid £3million and it will still be knocked back " Don't care if it's your 1st or last bid it's not enough.
BlueyBridgend - there's nothing wrong with work ethic and Norwich were an excellent example of that. In fact, it was probably the one thing we lacked that cost us promotion last year. My point is that when you rely on effort alone, you can end up like Barnsley (no offence to Barnsley) rather than Norwich. It's all too easy then for teams with some flair in them like Tarbaat at QPR to turn you over with that skill. I obviously want us to do well this year, but would also prefer to watch our recent style continue.
We sold Chopra because we wanted him of the wage bill and he had gone downhill due to his previous drinking/gambling problems. Malky has stated his desire to keep Whittingham and the malaysians have said we aren't looking to offload anymore players. You'll have to convince Whittingham's misses for him to leave cardiff. She was one of the reasons he didn't want to leave us for Forest and signed a new deal. He's happy here. And with this bid for whittingham, anyone know how much they've bid? I think they've only just realised that to get the best out of Chopra, they need Whittingham to provide the ammunition.....
Yes, it would be. Cardiff have challenged for promotion the last 3 years running, whereas ipswich have finished mid table for the same period. The only thing you have in your favour is speculation that you MIGHT have a better season than us, but Whitts is not stupid, he would choose a proven track record over mere speculation any day of the week.
All those comments being made about Whittingham look like they have been copied and pasted from a different thread about a certain striker..... Hope your chairman is as strong and doesn't fold to easy. If he's gonna go, screw em for every penny I say!
