I'm getting my footy fix watching the masters on sky. Do Saints still compete in the competition? and either way if you were asked to select a squad to compete today who would you pick? A squad of 9 at 35yrs or over and not playing professionally and have played for Saints. Beasant Monkou Beresford Le saux indiakez Le tis Marsden Pahars Ostenstadt
Beasant plays for someone else in it, can't remember who. Monkou plays for chelsea Beresford, no Le Saux would play for chelsea Idiakez? please behave Le tissier wouldn't be arsed Marsden, yes Pahars wouldn't do it Ostenstadt, yes
A bit of fun mate ! Dryden is playing for notts county in the masters but still played for us as well. I said pick a team not force them to play.
not sure. I have never seen them compete in it. Flowers is a great shout though. Indiakez was playing for Derby this morning and looked pretty handy, mind you he was up against steve clarridge!
Idiakez was a talented player, although we never saw the best of him at Saints in the twilight of his career. He didn't really feature much under Burley and I suspect most people remember him for his penalty miss in the play-offs against Derby. I suspect Dodd and Benali would be in such a side, how about Pahars too?
Yeah i agree on indiakez. Pahars is in my team. I also missed putting Niemi in if eligible. I Know people are more familiar with various era's but to get a decent masters team for today is not so easy for me personally.
Looking at Wikipedia, we haven't featured since 2006, which was the last time they had a Southern Group section of the competition (and to be fair to the organisers, that included us, Chelsea, QPR and West Ham. Considering there was also a London Group, I guess it's no real surprise that they ditched the Southern Group. It was effectively just London Group Mark II, designed solely to accomodate us). As have been mentioned on here, Dodd, Benali, Le Tissier, Marsden and Niemi would all feature highly on my list.
Saints were in it and played the Skates. It was a near blood batch as the dirty b'stards came in with the sole intent of kicking and punching us off the pitch; t'was shocking!
