Ipswich were crowing all over Chops last season, we wouldn't sell to them, although on the old 606 it was proclaimed a certainty by a lot of Ipswich fans. Now we have banged the **** out of him and he can no longer walk straight we sell him on, and so finally, and when we were ready, you have Chops, well good luck with that one. When Whitts fails to do the job you can buy him for 1.5 mill as well, too good to you lot thats our trouble.
JWM has reliable sources - if he's that sure it usually happens. I can understand Cardiff fans trying to pump their chest out but let's be honest it's a sinking ship and no player will want to get dragged down with it.
"Elsewhere the striker we are bidding for is Sharp, we have upped the offer to £3.5Million and Doncaster are willing to do business. Seems we might just get our man afterall!" First issue with this - Saints agreed £3.25 mill and he was given permission to discuss personal terms - why would we bid an extra £250,000 ? Sharp has also said he wouldn't play for us publicly and wants to move to the prem. If your right fair play but I'm quite sure Sharp won't be coming. As for Whittingham. Would be a good player, however if he's already on £20,000 a week what would we have to offer him ? Also, where would you all play him ?
I've got no problem with two small things up front as long as they're well formed, perky and do the job. The problem comes when there's nothing at all up top - and I think that's a problem that Roy Keane always had but that Paul Jewell is thankfully not prepared to settle for.
Well obviously we need to outbid Southampton, that's pretty obvious. Secondly, it'd be Carson right, Whittingham left with Chops and Sharp up front. Simples.
Wittingham would be one heck of a signing and a clear statement of our ambition for next season. We desperately need his creativity in midfield and his undoubted dead ball capabilities. A far better signing than Bullard would have been and if PJ pulls this off we will be a force to be reckoned with. Now for that right sided Centre Back!
And where is your evidence for this sinking ship comment? I'd be very interested to see it, the same as Cardiff being in "dire straits" financially, a lot of people spout this rubbish, and when asked for sources or "proof" they come up with unproven tabloid articles that are 2 or 3 years old, we have moved into a new stadium and our new owners have cleared up the PROVEN debts, and are addressing the others. Our new manager is rebuilding the team after our loan players returned to their parent clubs. Off field activities had a lot to do with Chopra's transfer, but this is NOT the case with Whittingham. He is happy at Cardiff and has recently signed a new contract, he doesn't particularly want to move, and we don't need to sell. The player might be tempted into a move that might improve his career, but why should he go to a club that has consistently finished below us, it would be looked on as a sideways move at best (and that's being charitable). Every player has his price as we all know, but unless you are prepared to throw silly money (by championship standards) at us then you can forget it, as for the Chopra connection, well they weren't exactly bosom buddies at Cardiff, so don't rely on that to tempt him out into the backwoods of Suffolk. If you want to look at sinking ships, look a bit closer to home.
Blue Prophet I like the fact that you underestimate us! We are a sleeping giant that has been massively mismanaged over the last few years no more so then under the disasterous Roy Keane era. Our owner has seen the error of his ways and since the appointment of Paul Jewell we have turned the corner. We are cash rich and well funded. Just because you have finished above us over the last couple of years doesn't make you bigger than us. Your club should be sponsored by Coke as you have bottled it everytime. I have no beef with Cardiff as I am not bothered about what goes on at your club but in all seriousness a move from Cardiff to Ipswich would be a step up for Whittingham.
Thanks for proving my point If you were confident then you wouldn't talk with such venom. I think it's incredibly unlikely you will be finishing anywhere near the play offs this season, your manager has gone, your best players are leaving and not being replaced. Proof? No proof obviously because anything can happen in football but it doesn't look good. http://www.cardiff.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=245755
You can't afford him. He is worth more to us than you could afford to pay, and we are not a selling club anymore. Definitely a non-starter, you'd be better off looking for players who actually want to join you club, rather than contracted players who don't.
If Cardiff aren't in the **** then why did you appoint Malky McKay who has never worked with a budget of more than a tenner and a packet of crisps!
A brilliantly well-informed comment. Our owner is worth almost a billion quid and we have just got 8 million for Connor Wickham. I would love to know how much you value Whittingham at!
Ipswich had a bit of success under Sir Alf Ramsey, and a bit more under Bobby Robson, this was more remarkable, because it was achieved by a small town club from what was regarded by many as a footballing backwater, Ipswich were held up (quite rightly) as what could be achieved by a medium sized club, given good management, and a bit of good luck, this hardly qualifies them as "sleeping giants" . A move from one championship club to another is at best a sideways move, a move to a club that has finished lower than the one you are with for the last 3 seasons has to be seen as a step down if anything.
Prophet I didn't want to get drawn into that old chestnut but I get annoyed when other clubs supporters come on our board and dismiss us as insignificant before a ball is even kicked! We may be in a bit of a backwater but we have won trophies and done things that you and many other clubs would have given their hind teeth for! On every measurement we are bigger than Cardiff and now that we have found a manager who is capable of getting us promoted with large financial backing why would it be seen as a sideways or backward step for Whittingham? Through our history, fanbase, set up and financial backing we are a big club in this league and with a few more quality players like Whittingham we will be a force next season.
end of the day its gonna be down to the player probably, does he want to tread water where he is ( and eventually sink) or does he want to swim with the bigger boys? i know what i'd do but i'm not very good at football, so doubt i'll ever have to worry about it! we'll do well with or without him anyway. coyb!
You appointed Ramsey, who had NO managerial experience, and Robson who had just been sacked from his first unsuccesful managerial post at Fulham, so this comment makes no sense You obviously resemble Wark's moustache, thick, outdated and a bit of a joke. Nowhere have I said that Cardiff are a "bigger" club than Ipswich.....that has all come from Ipswich fans as one of the reasons that Whittingham would leave "little" Cardiff for "mighty" Ipswich, these fans are deluded and living in the past. Look at this example http://www.cardiff.vitalfootball.co....e.asp?a=245755 We have signed SIX players since this article was published, try and keep up if you are going to use things to "prove a point" Our club can put a high valuation on Whittingham, if (and it's a big if) your club are prepared to meet it, fair enough, every player has his price, but suggesting he would leave to achieve his footballing ambitions with a BIG club like Ipswich is frankly ridiculous, and he is hardly likely to be attracted by the bright lights of rural Suffolk is he? As soon as you accept the fact that you are a small to medium sized town in the middle of nowhere, well the better it will be for you, get a more realistic outlook on life, it's healthier for you and you will have a happier life in the long run.
I've obviously touched a raw nerve Prophet! I suggest you calm down before you give yourself a hernia! Just remember that you are a welcome guest on our board but when you come on here and imply that we are backward you can't be surprised at the reaction you get! BTW How many points have you taken off us home and away over the last couple of years...? Where's me calculator!
