Barton was more sinned against than sinning against City. He retaliated towards Tevez and took a calculated gamble afterwards to try and provoke someone from City into getting sent off. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Calculated gamble - more like red mist! His sending off v Norwich that season and against Hull last season, both similar as the red mist descended. He was a loose cannon - but he's gone now, so no longer our problem.
I may have to dig deep here, but at the time I remember you along with me being on Barton's side at that game. Tevez was the wrong'un and we ploughed a long and sorrowful case for him.
I put up a case for Barton doing everything out of and in response to a desire for justice and to win at all costs. Swords (much as I love the guy but he didn't really know me then) suggested I needed the same psychological help as Barton. I lost sympathy when he started bad mouthing us when at Marseilles. No doubt he tries hard for whoever but his loyalty only extends to those who hold him in the same regard that he does himself. As (I think it was) Kiwi said, he spent most of his enthusiasm chasing the balls he lost; mostly dragging himself out of position and costing us dear in the process.

I'd give us a few weeks before you start your new career - there's a lot of induction courses and health and safely DVDs to get through. Joey's antics since then have worn me down (moreso than the Man City game) to the point where I'd barely motivate myself to justify his actions. I would have argued it more meaningfully back then. I could probably make a case for him not kicking Aguero out of cowardice but that would be more semantics than good debate. Maybe Nines will have less resignation on the subject if you're looking to spark it again. I would be interested to hear the views of anyone who slated him for City but thinks that Hull last year was not an issue (particularly if they considered him worthy of a new contract).
