The Sky Bet Championship lot say we are considering making a move for Huddersfield Town striker James Vaughan.

"The 27-year-old joined Huddersfield Town on an initial loan spell in 2013, which was made permanent in 2013 in a £600,000 deal taking him to West Yorkshire from Norwich City. However, Vaughan has had a career plagued with injury, and particularly over the last couple of years, he’s been an infrequent player for the Terriers, who face a constant battle to keep him off the injury table.

The ex-Everton striker has now been told that he won’t be offered a new contract when his deal expires at the end of the season, subsequently igniting interest from Kit Symons."

Doesn't set the blood racing I'm afraid.

A striker that's always injured, don't we already have one of those?

Meanwhile, Lewis Grabban has been suspended by Norwich for refusing to sit on the bench in their game against Rotherham. The 27yr old who hales from Croydon is valued at £2m.

And there are strong rumours that QPR are touting for 34yr old Peter Crouch who comes in at around £1.5m.

Wouldn't either of those strikers be much better targets than the Huddersfield boy?

    Vaughan
Seems just the job, injury prone what more could one ask for.

The kind of price we're likely to pay for Vaughn shows the lack of ambition in the club. I think we should go and blow £10m or more on the next Steve Marlet or Andy Johnson. If we can spend big on someone who is likely to disappoint, it would give kunye someone new to moan about for several years and thus save the rest of the squad from being the main object of his wrath. The boost to morale that it would give the others could be enough to propel us to a glorious promotion-winning season. You know it makes sense.

Vaughn is (or was) a very good player, shame to see his career essentially ruined by injury - Dean Ashton was a real shame, he looked like he might go on to have a very good career. Probably not the right move for us.

With the deadline closing, we’ve apparently made a bid for Nottingham Forest’s 27yr old defender Michael Mancienne

please log in to view this image

“Mancienne came through the youth ranks with Chelsea but only played six first-team games for the Blues. The former England Under-21 international enjoyed loan spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers and two at Queens Park Rangers before leaving Chelsea permanently in 2011 for German club Hamburg. After three years in Germany, Mancienne returned to England to join Nottingham Forest and he made 38 appearances in all competitions last season in his debut campaign at the City Ground.

Mancienne has started all five of Forest's games this season and has established himself as a key member of Dougie Freedman's side.”

Footnote: Sheffield Wednesday have signed our ‘old boy’ Michael Turner

He was highly rated as a youngster and expected to go on to better things than he did, as I recall. He's versatile too, able to play centre back (his principle position), full back on either side and as a defensive midfielder. Could be another decent signing.

Vaughn must be all paper talk. He's not good enough. You need a gem in the league we're in who knows how to score goals - very tough to find.
I wonder who the 2-3 players Kit's on about.

I still hope a deal for Gayle might be done, also a centre half with pace who has lots of championship experience and has been told he is free to leave by his club is Mariappa at Palace. Gayle and Vydra both on loan and Mariappa would be a great transfer deadline day!!

It was a joke, kunye, What happened to 'this is a forum where a diversity of opinions are welcome', or whatever it was you said when I disagreed with your assessment of potential new managers (ironically, incurring your wrath by offering a divergent opinion myself)? Lighten up.

If reports are to be believed Fulham have bid for three centre backs in the last 24 hours, has the feeling of a late panic to it!!! The three are Mancienne of Forest, a new bid for Stearman of Wolves and a player I don't know Kone at Lyon!

Kone would be Bakary Kone, who since 2011 has played 3 games for Lyon B, according to Wikipedia - presumably we aren't really going to sign him, are we? To say he would lack match sharpness might be an understatement.

Forest are apparently stallling on Mancienne.

The French paper L'Equipe say we've got the 27yr old Bakary Kone for 2m euros ((£1.6m) on a 4yr deal

Of the three Steadman would be my preference.

Saw late this afternoon that Brentford have told Fulham they require
£5mil for Tarkowski, who although it sounds a lot must be within our spending
range. According to the Brentford fanzine supporters he was one of last seasons
    mainstays.
Have been comparing stats with those of Brightons Dunk
Both within similar heights to each other.
Age ~ Dunk 23. Tarkowski 22. Tarkowski reputed to be the speedier of the 2
    Both C/H
Stats ~ Dunk accurate pass rate 82%, Average tackles won 42%, Average pass length 26m
    ::: ~ Tarkowski " " " " " " " 79% " " " " " " " " " 67%, " " " " " " " " " " 25m
Statistically they seem to be on par with each other, so will we make a firm offer ?

In fairness, Wikipedia also says that he has played 129 games for the Lyon first team since 2011.

    Just for balance. :p
