Now I know these topic may of been covered already but i'm starting a new thread to show my pleasure!

Firstly Yes i'm an arsenal fan - but I have lived in the Medway towns since moving here in 1997 from London and have followed if not supported Gillingham throughout my time in Kent.

In my opinion this is the best squad that Gillingham have had since I started following them in 1997 and I have to say up until 3 weeks ago i was worried that the club weren't going to sign anyone of any note and then BAM here we are 7 signings later and the club is looking in fine shape.

So whats your opinion? Is this the best squad? Where would you like to see the squad improved upon? Maybe a another Goalkeeper, Left winger? Forward?

    Tell me your thoughts?

This is the best squad I have seen in my life, But I think the one from 96 may have been a bit better or around the same standard, but this is a younger team aswell which is good.
I think we do not need any more wingers as we have so many midfielders that it could be trouble because we have loads, A striker would be good to add to the teams strength and a goalkeeper but I doubt we sign another 1.

We can only state whether this is the best squad or not once it has or hasn't achieved anything.

completely agree - This season could be a complete disappointment and all the hype around these signings could be nothing but false optimism.

But I will say that i'm excited for this forth coming season as I think this squad has so much potential and I cant see many teams being able to compete the gills this year!

    Am I excited? Yes.

Do I think the team has potential? Yes

Is it the best team we've had? Can't say yet. I will be backing the squad all the way but until the results are in and we can reflect in 2 maybe 3 seasons time it's impossible to say whether this is the best squad. I hope it will be but to say it is, is just as wrong as when people were spouting off rubbish like we were going to get relegated before 1st of July.

I'm loving the optimism at the moment, it's far better than the mood in June, but what I'd like to see from the fans is them backing squad lets focus on the first game of the season. Then after that the 2nd and so on. Talk about promotion or relegation is futile at this moment in time.

Worse squads have got us promoted and better squads have failed to do so. It's all about how the players will work together and what the Manager can get out of them. Having said all this, I feel very confident that with this squad and the energy that it has already generated amongst the fans, that we will get automatically promoted. I can't wait until the the season kicks off. UTG

This is the best squad since we were in the championship but does not mean we will get promoted just because of this. Not certain about goalie either, could be the week link, Royce was the best since Brown left. Also was not that impressed with Martin last season. So we should score more goals but could conced a lot too.

Absolutely nowhere near being our best squad since the mid-nineties!!

    Try Brown
    Bartram
    Pennock
    Hope
    Butters
    Ashby
    Perpetuini
    Patterson
    Southall
    Smith
    Hessenthaler
    Saunders
    Browning
    Osborn
    Gooden
    Shaw
    King
    Onuora
    Ipoua

    Now THAT was a squad!

thats a very good suggestion, i think overall that that squad was stronger across the board, however if you were to put a player to player comparison i think the current squad would be slightly ahead espically given the strength in depth we have in the midfield

That suggested squad is the squad that finished 12th in the Championship!

Don't get me wrong - I think we've made some good signings - but how can you even put the current team on the same bracket as the Championship heroes of the early noughties??

But the team is one of the best still, I know it is not the best, but the best we have had for some years.

It isn't one of the best at all yet. Extremely far from it. We are 2 divisions below the squad Gills_Steve posted which says it all. I don't think this team would acheive the same success at this moment in time. However, it is POTENTIALLY the best.
