Read his resignation letter / announcement / statement (delete as appropriate) earlier. Cor bally blinkin’ blimey what is he droning on about. Popes, Monarchs and Presidents have stepped down with less of a hullabaloo than Mr Stevens! Talk about someone wrapped up in their own self-importance and I haven’t seen ‘spinning’ like this since the days of ‘Mandy’ Mandelson. I bet, old boy Stevens, is astonished that this ‘news’ didn’t make the headlines either at 10 o’clock, last night, or on today’s front pages!

Meanwhile, I love the line in today’s ‘Racing Post’ (which I sneaked a peak of at the station earlier on – railway not Police) following his gushing – ‘he’s had just 8 winners so far this season’. Brilliant!

Spot on old bean. I am still waiting with interest to see if he puts his old yellow raincoat up for sale on old ebay, I think i'd look rather fetching in it, and lets face it, I could have done a better job with his string this year.

It does intrigue me that due to them having children, they can't run a yard, I mean, what do they think the rest of the population do when they have young folk? Should they all resign en-masse?

Very much a political message, rather than stating the real one that is "We can't do the job to the required standard"

8 winners? blimey, even old Peter Winkworth managed to send more than that out a year, and he was running three legged geldings who had spent most of the summer on Weston beach.

Who will the Sheik go to next? I would put my coat into the ring, but I haven't been able to acquire it yet from Ebay. I will do once my bid of £2.50 wins the auction.

    Needs must.

Did you see what Mr Stevens was doing prior to taking over at his current yard??? Working for an estate agents in Shropshire! I kid you not and could not believe it when I read that. OK, so he had some experience working in training establishments before this (junior roles with Ed Dunlop and Mrs Harrington I think it said) but that’s a strange bit of recruitment to my eye. I’m sure in my local Connells and Atwell Martin the old boys are eagerly sat behind their desks waiting for David Redvers to walk through the door as we speak. Although surely even he will draw the line at Allen and Harris.

I will give Strakers a call for him. Maybe he can get a new job and a house in a multipack deal.

Saying that, it might take up too much of his time.
