Thus City boss Alex Neil is wary of the threat posed by the Millers ahead of the two sides' League Cup second-round meeting on this evening and he is keen to avoid an upset as his players set out on their first cup campaign of the season. "It's a one-off competition," he told reporters. "Strange things happen in cups. You can't underestimate any opposition. We'll be putting out a strong squad against Rotherham and we'll be trying to win the game. "We've started the season well. From the performances so far, we've merited more points than we've got. We want to maintain our momentum this season, especially with the game coming up on Sunday [at Southampton]." Two time winners Norwich last won this competition in 1985 and that was the Canaries' last visit to the national stadium until their Championship play-off final victory in May against Middlesbrough. While a cup run may not be high on the club's list of priorities this season, City fans will hope that they do not have to wait another 30 years for their next trip to Wembley. please log in to view this image Listen to full match commentary on BBC Radio Norfolk 95.1 & 104.4FM, 855Mhz and DAB Digital Radio with Chris Goreham please log in to view this image and guest match summariser Mark Rivers please log in to view this image ... and don't forget to tune into 'Canary Call' post match with Mark & Rob Butler ! please log in to view this image OTBC !
If you're out there Dave, is it possible to merge these threads altogether otherwise we're all going to get rather foncused ??
I reckon NCFC have a cup game lottery machine. like the lottery, it just churns out the wrong numbers every time.
Despite what AN says, that line up tells me that he is not taking this competition seriously IMO Edit:- ...and the only striker in the match day squad is RvW !
Hooper not involved tonight and, according to Chris Goreham, he has been seen around Hillsborough and has admitted having discussions with them. Read into that what you will...
I'm no doubt reading too much into this, but I half wonder if this teamsheet isn't all about making Ricky feel like the main man. No strike partner, nobody to replace him at 60 mins if he's struggling, he has 90 mins to lead the line and make an impact. The midfield is probably meant to closely resemble what we use in the League. O'Neil holding with Dorrans alongside but with license to go forwards as usual, then Johnson left, Odjidja central and Howson in that slightly odd right midfield role he's been used in. Big chance for Ricky to show he can work in our league system.
It's a weird feeling. I'm not so much bothered by the result tonight, I just want Ricky to show us what he has and succeed.
I'd like to be a cup junkie! I'm going to be honest, id prefer to see us win a cup this season than stay up. That would be glorious. Mostly because I'm confident we'd bounce back again... But still that cup memory would last forever!
I would rather get into Europe, by fair play or whatever. Be great to see competitive European football at CR again.
