I can hear JK typing away frantically, looking for obscure quotations and raising his blood pressure massively. He will be here in a few minutes Rich <laugh>

I am now seriously bothered that either JK is not well or his keyboard has broken with the fury of typing so hard. Or he has mislaid his book of obsure quotations.....has he been seen?

Ha. I've been busy reading about the Chinese stock market!

In seriousness, I have very little sympathy for the far-right/EDL types, but to start physically lobbing stuff at them is a bit much IMO.

Yeah really dangerous coffee cups, eggs & bananas. As long as they picked up afterwards otherwise it's littering.

If it was the other way round I'm pretty sure it would've been far more deadly items thrown.

Throwing bananas at White supremacists - a certain amount of irony there.

I am so tired of any and all extremists taking advantage of the freedom of speech enjoyed in the UK and using it to justify their obnoxious and outmoded beliefs and then justifying them by saying that others hold extreme beliefs. I'd love it if we could just put all such groups into an enclosed environment, let them take each other out and then arrest the survivors for murder and throw away the key.

I don't think it was a specific group of left wing liberals just a pile of people who didn't want that **** in their city. Yes fighting pits for these ass-hats till there's one left....

As for the bananas I assume that was what they were going for, no?

Speaking of utterly mental extremists and without wishing to bring a fatwa down on my head the news today reports that IS have blown up a 2000 year old temple in Syria as it is "offensive to Islam" and also beheaded the 80 year old curator who had worked there for more than 50 years for the heinous crime of working in a world heritage site.

Mad, mad bastards. How on Earth can you reason with people who are offended enough by a 2000 year old monument to blow it up and kill an octogenarian over it?

I like to think so to.

I saw that, they tortured the old boy too because they thought he knew where the valuables had been buried. That's what it's all about money.

Scum with a gun unfortunately using Islam as a cover & an excuse similar to what "we" did during the crusades, not to say I'm excusing them of course

Really don't know how it's going to turn out, it needs boots on the ground to fight them but if we put western soldiers in some will see it as an invasion & could see more join isis as a result but it needs trained & equipped soldiers to stop this mess.

I suspect what the west will be forced to do is step up, supply heavy weapons, training & a huge amount of air support BUT then we've got to help rebuild & exclude the nutters because otherwise it'll turn into Libya or Iraq.

Certainly no quick or easy fix for the area probably looking at decades to stop, reverse & stabilise.

You can't, and Muslims wonder why people are despising them (or at least their religion/ideology/race) in growing numbers.

That's a very dangerous statement though, you can't lump all Muslims in with these nutters. Anyone who links Mr Avg Muslim walking down the high street & hates them for ISIS needs to be booked in to a psych unit.

The Quran has been twisted to meet these assholes agenda exactly the same way Christians did with the Bible (and many still do like Westboro church).

Most people with half a brain don't blame the whole religion for the acts of these criminal scumbags, I certainly don't hate any Muslims. I know there are groups out there that advocate this stuff & there's potentially institutional "intolerance" because of risk of suicide bombers which is unfortunate but has to be done.

You cannot reason with these lunatics though that I agree with.

we can't put western forces in there because that will poor more fuel on the fire. I believe we need to train & supply legitimate states in the area & cut off arms supplies to ISIS.

One thing is certain, whatever "we" are doing right now is not working!

That's why I said - or at least their religion/ideology/race.

I knew quite a number of Muslims from when I worked in Norfolk and Cambs and they were sound as a pound. I have nothing against them or indeed any 'sane' Muslim (or from any faith), but I do have issue with their 'holy book' and it's contents because what is written can and is being used to justify all the 'nutters' do.

In brackets after Muslim. I wasn't intending to say that was your thinking. As for having problems with their "holy book" no one should have a problem with it nutters have used holy books to excuse their actions for hundreds of years. I think the Bible has caused far more damage over the years than the Quran.

Can't argue with that, and would never try to defend it

I'm pleased that you managed to find your book JK. To be honest, that is one group that I would not bother to defend their right for anything!
