Colo looked back to his best yesterday but one swallow doesn't make a summer.
I'm honesty puzzled as to why he can be so inconsistent.
Is it his CB partner?, private life? mood? New deal?
I'd like to see a lot more of yesterday's Colo for the rest of the season but somehow I don't think we will.
So what is it with Colo?

I think he struggles with big strong players badly ... and pacey players with plenty movement ..rooney was none of that yesterday

still think he aint the answer also player in epl are getting better all the time

To be fair, he and Taylor looked very strong last year before the latter got his usual season-ender. It's an age-old situation; a ball player alongside a ball winner always works. Plus Saylor can carry the ball - he's not frightened of it like Willo.

It's why I think Colback/Anita isn't to be built on - neither are a real ball winner - you need Tiote in there and one of them dropped (Colback) to really get the best out of Steve's formation.

Couldn't agree more. In a settled and well drilled system with a consistency and a confidence then Colo has a lot of class. There are some strikers who will give him a going over but there are some strikers in the league who will do that to almost anyone. His issue has been being put into no-win situations with clueless colleagues (Willo one side, Haidara/ Dummett the other), whilst also having to captain, win the ball and dictate the play from the back whilst Krul also has a poor spell. All whilst being coached by... well... I think we can all finish that off. I still think we can get a good couple of seasons out of him, bringing through Mbemba and one or two others.

ps. I think with a solid central defence and a left winger who will help him out a bit Haidara could develop into a mid-table Prem LB (no better). Just my view, so long as he doesn't try too much fancy stuff which makes him look a tool.

Rooney is tailor made for him, no real pace, not a big powerhouse. I think Giroud will be more of a problem (depending on his mood) and Walcott.

def different task ahead for him that's for sure ... one player he struggles with badly is that Victor Anichebe he just cant handle him for seasons

We saw the same Gomis. Lukaku is like kryptonite also. The problem is most teams have one, and know to play them against us. If you add in pace coming from wide or number 10, he is all at sea. Being brutal the bloke has had maybe two good seasons in his entire career here - one of those was in the Championship. He has massively underachieved for his ability. He is probably the most talented centre back we've had since Woodgate, yet he just doesn't seem to have the mental strength and will to make it happen.

Great game on Saturday though. Problem is how many sides will make it that easy for him?

Go through the teams - Gomis, Costa, Lukaku, Giroud, Benteke, Gestede, Pelle, Anichebe, Walters/Crouch, Murray/Wickham, Kane, Deeney - most teams have that player. Its a massive concern especially if Saylor and Mbemba were injured and having to rely on the inexperienced Lascelles or god forbid Willo.

TBH I saw Colo got M.O.T.M. from B.T. and Mbemba picked up from elsewhere but for me Saylor was back to his best blocking everything and anything. Even before Krul's leg save vs Depay he slipped and tried to throw his face in the way a la John Terry but couldn't quite stretch that far but that's the kind of commitment he has.

I know he gets a lot of stick from a lot of fans for being injury prone and some say he's not good enough but for me when he's on form he is tough to beat for any striker. I think with him and Colo at the back is when we are strongest. Just need Colo to keep performing like that and Saylor to stay injury free and we we will have a solid foundation to build upon. Not world class but bar any further defensive signings they would be my preferred two. If we do come up against big lumps i would personally drop Colo and pair Saylor and Mbemba together.

Saylor will not and cannot stay injury free. Lets just say I have insider knowledge that the bloke is riddled with imbalances that cannot be corrected.

When fit, Saylor brings athleticism, total commitment and isolated incidents of extreme stupidity. Amongst our current defenders, that looks pretty good.

Mbemba will be better when he cuts out his habit of trying for interceptions that he's never going to make and which let the attacking player skip past him. Colo is better if he isn't up against anyone very big or fast.

Look at it any way you like, we need another competent CB

This should suffice for both highlighted points:

Let's hope not! Any specifics such as knee/ankle trouble?
