We wouldn't need to anyway. He's out of contract, so if we wanted him we would just wait til he's fit, then sign him.

I wouldn't want us to sign Vlaar

Going to be announced Wednesday allegedly, I wonder if Connor can shed some light on this.
I also wouldn't want us to sign Vlaar.

Why would we wait to announce a free transfer? Why would we sign a player out until next year?

Oh bloody hell! Hope that's made up. He isn't as bad as some people think, but he would be third choice behind Fonte and Caulker for me. Why would we sign a third choice CB?
That's not the main issue - why on earth would we sign a player who's got a serious injury?

Rumours are going around that Song has failed his medical at West Ham.

Re: Vlaar. What would be either the rush or delay (whichever way you see it) to announce his signing on Wednesday? The guy's injured and on a free. Why such a specific date?

I had heard this a few days ago too - someone on Southampton Rumours said it would be announced on Wednesday, and he heard it from a very good source. I didn't believe it then, and don't believe it now.

That's only because the earnings are also well and truly out of control. :D

Add in a weakening Euro and you have crazy purchasing power. And it's only going to get crazier...if it feels nuts that recently promoted clubs like Leicester are able to rival historical European giants in transfers and on wages without any financial difficulty, just wait until they can comfortably out-bid them in a couple years. That's probably very bad for football in general, but the PL is going to continue to get more competitive as a result.

At least another four years. Probably more, unless the British economy tanks. It's estimated that, when the new TV deals kick in next year, even the teams finishing in the relegation zone will be receiving more than 90m in disbursements...that doesn't include matchday or commercial revenues, either. For the sake of comparison, only 28 teams in the world were listed as having revenues of 100m+ in '13/'14; we're trending toward having all 20 Premier League clubs in the top 35 or 40 in the world.

Really hope Pelle is watching how Callum Wilson did things today.... Direct play that scares defenders.... Still think we need a forward who does exactly that....

I'm one of Pelle's biggest critics, but it's unfair to expect him to play like a player who is a completely different type of player; that's not his game. We have one like that; Mane (Jayrod a bit too). I'd like another one too, but I don't think that's happening.

I know they're different types of player.... But Wilson showed total, unadulterated drive.... Sometimes I don't see that from Pelle. It confuses me that he is Plan A, B and C and will never be taken off.

I would've loved to see Long, Manè and Jayrod for the last 10-15 the other day against Mitjylland (??!!) but it appears he can do no wrong.

If you read here regularly you would know I've been on Pelle's back for a while, but the second half on Thursday he was excellent, so I can't agree about that game.

Other games definitely. Jayrod will give you that direct drive - just a few more games.

I'm not saying he didn't, but the fact that he is never an option to be changed worries me slightly. We are a short team and he does offer height, but to never try taking him off seems remiss to me.

I'm not his biggest fan, but do see the merits of a big physical player like him, just don't like him being our only plan.
