I know no new match thread yet (so posting on here) but bloody hell Lawro has us down for an away win....

Watford created lots of chances against West Brom last week without taking them, and I think the Hornets could be in for another frustrating afternoon.

Southampton got it wrong against Everton, and put in a really poor team performance.

That does not change the fact Saints are one of the better sides in the Premier League and I do not see them coming unstuck two weeks running.

Lawro's prediction: 1-2

Jack's prediction: 1-1

I know it's been posted before but it cheered me up to read Rons comments last night....

"There will be no more players sold this summer," said the Dutch boss, who has seen Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne leave the club this summer.

"There's no bid for any player. Not for Sadio Mane, not for Victor Wanyama.

"Write what you want to about the rumours, nobody is going to leave Southampton."

I genuinely hope he's not counting Gaston as a 'player' when he says that. We really need to get him off our books. I really wanted for Gaston to work out for us but he seems to injure himself completely at random anyway, we need to ditch him asap as he's still somehow leeching of our annual wage bill.

Glad we're back on topic. What you need is a magnetic cat flap and a cat collar with the appropriate magnet for your cat. Stops stray cats getting in and can be locked if necessary. :D
The best kind of cat flap is triggered by the microchip all cats should have implanted. I recently found out from a friend who is a vet that all kittens get microchipped when they go in to be neutered, regardless of whether the owner asks for it. You just have to ask for them to be activated.

I have to agree with you. JWP has great set pieces and he does put in a shift but i see very little quality from him in open play. Don't get me wrong he's not terrible, he just doesn't add much in the general flow of the game. He reminds me of an NFL player who comes on to take the conversions (or whatever they call it) and then toddles off again. He takes up a vital spot in our midfield and in all honestly nothing I've seen lately (set pieces aside) justifies his position.
In my opinion JWP is worth his place for the quality of his set pieces alone. Last night Caulker scored from a corner, albeit disallowed, and produced a great save from a free kick. Then James nearly scored direct from a free kick. If all three had gone in we wouldn't be having this conversation. And there were other less clear cut chances created from corners and free kicks. Yes, I agree, he should do more to protect the defence, but that will come in time. My point is that there is no one else in the squad who comes close to being as good as he is at set pieces, not Davis, not Tadić, and they are a vital part of the game.

They should do that for humans. No more lost keys.

I'm not disputing his sovereignty over set pieces but in my opinion he doesn't deliver much beyond that. He has a decent work ethic but i haven't seen anything like a cut out pass or decent cross from him recently. He was occupying one of a key 4 positions in the game and all he did was decent free kicks. To be honest I'd rather ****house free kicks if it meant JWP was more involved in winning the the midfield war.

But if Caulker's disallowed goal had counted, or the goalie hadn't got a hand to the header from the free kick, or one of the other chances had gone in, then you couldn't be arguing he didn't deserve his place. I don't understand why someone who delivers so many great balls shouldn't be lauded for it. It reminds me of when people used to moan about Rickie scoring loads of goals from free kicks and penalties and not many from open play. Chances are chances, wherever they come from.

I believe Gaston will be loaned out to a team in Italy with an option to buy, he's not going to make it with any team in the prem.

Like i said, I'm not doubting his set piece delivery, i just don't see him doing much else. Having a threatening free kick specialist isnt a valid substitute for a productive AM who can create chances on the fly and improvise when needed. JWP isn't doing nearly enough of that in my opinion and doesn't earn his spot in our first choice XI merely through a decent corner kick alone.

I know we're never going to agree on this, but a threatening free kick and corner specialist is exactly what we need. We have other players in the team who can do the other stuff. Yesterday we were discussing when the last time was that Saints scored from a corner (Toby away to Palace on Boxing Day I believe). Last night we did, apart from it being unfairly disallowed. Plus the other chances, plus the penalty (which JWP could have been given to take). The alternative is to go months and months when we might as well not bother taking corners and attacking free kicks.

Fair enough on the agree to disagree part. To me we have plenty of capable corner/free kick/throw-in takers that we dont need JWP anymore. He's not bad by any means but IMO he's not upto scratch outside of his set pieces.

I guess we'll have to leave it up to Ron then!

Doubt there will be an option to buy seeing as he's out on contract at the end of the year.

No first team exits so maybe Gaston can still go?

Its football. Sing a song about the team instead then. Since 2003 there has been a continual turn over in players, so I'm not sure there have been that many that have hung around, so I'm not really sure you've fully experienced a bedrock of players as from 2003 onwards lots changed.

In football, you don't usually choose a team, it usually chooses you for some reason and it's the club that you stick with. Usually.

Days of players staying at a club for 10 years have been (mostly) missing for years so without being rude, I don't really see what you have to complain about. I don't see any clarity in your thinking. I support Saints. I get attached to some of the players and feel a little disappointment when they leave. Saints always are there and I am always there (I don't mean physically)

Quick question: if most of our squad had a longevity of say 7-8 years at the club, would you then sanction the £35?

It is just how this is the second summer in a row we have lost out on a core part of our team. Transfers in have been pretty underwhelming considering who left and there are less of our own/ English youth players pushing for spots than in previous seasons, something that has always been an important part of Southampton's identity. Yeah I think I would, I've had a season ticket before (2010-2014), and traveled from Brighton for 2 years of that. For the record, I don't think it is any fault of the club, the huge amounts of money available elsewhere is insane, who wouldn't want to earn £5m+ per year.

Supposedly Liverpool have had a bid for Mkhitaryan of Dortmund accepted. I'm thinking this signing would push Lallana even further down the pecking order.
Maybe we should put a £5-10mil bid in for him?

I just feel sorry for Swansea. If they carry on like they have been the mediawill start writing up crao about them. At least they will leave us alone for a while...
