And that's got relation to the Mane situation?
I'm not sure I understand the question, but my point is that last summer we sold 5 key players but ended up in our highest ever position in the Premier League, with our highest points total. If we sold Mané it wouldn't be the end of the world as we would recruit someone else equally as good or with the potential to become better. However, in this case I don't believe we will sell him this year.

We are a selling club............
Have been, will be,always will be,.....unfortunately clubs of our size will always look to sell for vast profit..ie buy cheap sell big.

All clubs are selling clubs. If the price is right, players go. It would be insane not to sell if someone's offering you more than a player is worth to you.

The difference now is that our players are going to the big four plus Liverpool and Spurs rather than anywhere else. As we get bigger and better the list of teams we sell players to is shrinking and will continue if we keep improving.

Oh I'm not worried if he goes or not tbh.....
We've been here before and will again so I'm never going to panic
Personally I think he will go,but I could be wrong....but experience tells me it never simple with Saints lol

Can you tell the future? No one knows what will happen or how Saints will be in 10yrs time. I bet know would have guessed how well we would have done after two relegations.
I tell you one thing...on I can't tell you the future...
But with every player that goes and player that arrives I'll still be supporting Saints as I have been for the last 40 odd years.....
Players for me are only here a short time with the only interest in earning vast sums of dosh with little interest in the club itself

The importance here is timing...you can't sell someone who is an almost certain starter in your team just before the end of the transfer window. Ronald has made his plans and would have every right to be pissed off if this happened. I don't think it will happen this season...especially in our Europa year .

I think some people are a little too optimistic. If we end up selling Mane then this is not going to be a good window. So far we've replaced excellent players with good ones. Let's not replace a potentially world class player with more decent, but only decent, signings. If we hold on to Mane then I will be reassured that our long term plan is indeed a plan and not just reactionary knee-jerking. Mane can go next summer - as most likely planned- with well though out replacements coming straight in. Not now. If we need to do a Scneiderlin again, then so be it.

As a couple of other people have said, football is an entertainment business and Mane is currently our most entertaining product. Selling him would be a real slap in the face to Saints customers. Anyway, I don't think we'll sell - but if we did it cannot be spun as a positive.

Euugghh how disgusting, and they say the romance of football has died...

I have to be honest, the phrase 'selling club' makes me grind my teeth and is bandied about far too often. It's a very lazy label in my opinion. Such is the adeptitude of our scouting department that we find players unproven in the Premier League for low transfer fees and take the risk on them. The bigger teams teams then come in and pay us a premium rate for proven players. It's a sustainable business model and we've got better steadily as a result. I would only be worried if Les Reed left or Liverpool put in a bid for the Black Box. The timing is awful with our final Europa League qualifier starting tomorrow and our domestic league campaign getting off to a fairly poor start but we should be used to these stories/rumours/Champion's League clubs coming in and pilfering the gems we've unearthed.

I don't think anyone is saying it's a positive at all Spaced, but I also don't think you can say "replace a potentially world class player with more decent, but only decent signings" without knowing who those signings are.

I had no idea who he was. I'm sure there are plenty Mane's out there. What are the odds that he will even go to United?

I did say that I don't think he will leave. However, if he does, I think it will be disaster out for our season. My opinion, and many will disagree, but he is currently the high point in the team for me.

Well said. We're all not too far apart. You're a bit of a cynic and I'm a dreamer. But MLT showed that it is not all about money.
