Return Of The Entertainers? (sort of)

While 'Wor Albert' is off on his hols sunning himself he has asked me to put together the match thread.

My head is telling me that we'll not pick up any points in our next 4 league games, however my heart is letting me down and filling up with that painful optimistic stuff that always leads to pain. Last week's performance against Southampton had plenty to get excited about, while still having enough of the old defensive frailties to keep expectations at least a little realistic.

Steve McClaren looks like he is trying to set us up to play a style of football easier on the eye than that we've grown used to. We haven't seen yet how he will set things up away from home, but I think he'll know that we can't rely on a strong defensive display. For that reason I'm expecting us to set up positively once again.

We should benefit from having that first 90 minutes under our belt, with players being fitter and a little more used to playing alongside each other. With Anita seemingly not suffering any ill effects from the injury that saw him subbed I wouldn't be surprised to see us begin the game with the same starting eleven.

Swansea played some fairly impressive football last season and showed against Chelsea that they have lots of dangerous attacking options again this season. They also showed that they can leave space at the back if teams are set up to exploit it. I expect to see another open and flowing game with both teams liable to make mistakes at the back. I think we could see another high scoring game, and if we play well I think we can bring a point back from Wales.

Feel free to make fun of my prediction if/when we come crashing down to earth on Saturday...

    Prediction: 2-2

    Thankyou sir.
I'm gonna get giddy and predict a Toon win 2-1.

I think this could be our first twatting, they look useful, Monk has done a hell of a job so far.

    4-1 defeat

Much better than Albert's efforts. I would be happy with a point from this but think we might get a sneaky 2-1 win.

I don't see us getting anything. I'd like to see us put in a good performance, and as long as we don't get bitch slapped, I'm ok.

I think we're capable of getting a result, but I'm going for a 2-1 Swansea win. I think the Swans will punish us for a defensive mistake.

    My line up -

    ---------------Cisse----------------
    Obertan-----Wijnal-----------Sissoko
    ----------Anita-------Colback-----
    Haidara---Colo---Mbeba---Janmaat
    -----------------Krul--------------

We'll line up unchanged IMO. I think we'll win. 2-1 with Cisse and Aarons scoring.

I think we'll show a bit of fight but go down 4-2, with a significant outcry of "FOR FUX SAKE BUY SOME FUXING DEFENDERS"!!! We'll start with two short ar$e CB's and get murdered by Gomis. There's the problem for me - every team knows exactly what to do vs. NUFC. Arsenal will play Giroud, Man U Fellaini, City Bony, then you've got Crouch, Benteke, Ulloa, Lambert - all down the league teams will be knowing exactly how to score against NUFC every week. Surely a man of McLaren's calibre sees this?

We could bring Williamson in to give us a bit of height at the back then. Both Mbemba and Colo fit into McLaren's style of comfortable ball players which I think is why he has decided to extend his contract. I think we have to work a lot harder at cutting out the supply to the big men and it really is the crosses from wide that are going to hurt us. A better defensive left back is urgently required.

Have to agree. Chippy's standards have always been pretty low and this season I think his standards have been slipping even lower (if that's possible) and No Chance has really stepped up to the mark, brought in a totally new and original style and rather embarrassed Chippy. I think Chippy needs to consider adopting No Chance's layout for future match threads or he might find No Chances aim to depose him will come to fruition.

Back to the match I'm going for another 2-2 with Gini and De Jong rescuing us a point.

I decided to adopt the John Carver approach to this thread. Promise something new and a brand new beginning but then just do exactly the same as my predecessor but fine tuning it with something weird on the head of a useless bugger in the box.

Ref Watch (because it's what I do)

    Mike Jones,
he of the infamous 'beachball' incident at Sunderland against Liverpool
he also of the infamous 'offside goal' by Tiote against Man City - (he and Head and shoulders guy were the only ones that thought it was offside)
against Crystal Palace last season he found an extra 7 mins added time at St.James', just enough time for Crystal Palace to equalise
waved away a cast iron penalty against Man U when the score was at 0-0
only to award us the most dubious of pens when 3-0 down and 3 mins to go (to be honest the only pen we got last season)

never rated this guy and seems to have risen through the leagues quicker than others (otherwise know as kissing the arse of Mike Riley)
beware of strange decisions being made throughout the game
he's the man in the middle, a sort of "look at me" guy,
watch for the hand signals that he instructs his assistants which way even the throw in's go

Mike Jones is the weakest ref in the Premier League by some ****ing distance.

Not the biggest **** though. Oh, there are a few of these bastards but he isn't one of them.

1-1 draw. Mitro sent off after ending Williams career.

Not a definite win for us but I'd say, Swansea 2-0

Definite win for us here. We got this easy(ish) 2-1 to the Toon!

Note: last season, despite any evidence to the contrary I predicted a 2-1 victory for nearly all games in the first half of the season. I may get overly optimistic at the start of a season...

Only if you bring your blow up sheep (assuming they don't allow you to bring in actual livestock)

We're still in the love in phase at present, give it 3 games.

Why do you always come on here and talk bollocks? This all stems back to Pardew and you seem to think we were hard on him. If you had the **** managing you I guarantee you would think different.
