Not a great result but always going to be difficult with back 4 that hasn't played together. Lets see where we are after the transfer window. I think there are few of us who don't have much faith in CR myself included but its a new season lets give him couple more games before condemning him. Please prove us wrong Chris!

I can't wait for Ramsey to be fired and we get a proper manager in.
Like who? Sam Allardyce? Gus Poyet? Harry Redknapp? All those other 'proper' managers who run a club without spending any money? Give us a name or two Kerry, genuine possibilities, not old has beens and never beens.

End of September before it's worth drawing conclusions. Disappointing today, especially that Hill and Mackie played, but hey ho. This is a **** league, any team getting a decent run over 15 games could end up in the play offs at least.

Bye bye Austin was a shame probably knocked a couple mill of his asking price after his performance today

My boy mackie didn't let me down seeing him back in the so called hoops shirt was great and imo was our best player today. Mackie wonderland was great too!

Watt was the game changer today for Charlton was surprised he didn't start ( apparently had an argument in training )

Can someone answer me this question though.. Why was JET taking our corners?! One of our tallest players comes on and that was his only input really.

Never mind The Valley is always an odd fixture..

Bring on Yoevil !! U Rrrrs!

The disappointing thing for me today, and this is a worry that is going to stick with us for the whole season, is Ramsey's inability to "manage" the game. Often in games, some things are going well and you're playing well but you cannot score for whatever reason. So naturally, something has to change. This happened today where for the first 20 minutes we looked sharp, we passed the ball well and got into good positions but couldn't score. Charlton, quickly caught onto this so when we had the ball, they got men behind it so that we couldn't force a way through. This, is where a manager should have installed in the team a slightly different way of playing. A different final ball. We do not have this.

Charlie Austin should not have played today at all. A player who wants a move does not deserve to use our first game of the season to get himself match fit. Entirely selfish of Ramsey to do that. Matt Phillips isn't worth £10 let alone £10mil based on his performance today, both goals down his side of the pitch and he was nowhere near either of them. This point is particularly key considering their left back scored inside our box!!! He also missed a glorious chance at 0-0 45 seconds into the second half, where he decided to kick it at the keeper, instead of either side of him from 12 yards.

Rob Green, for all you lovers of him, was awful. At fault for the first goal, by getting a full hand on a shot at his near post only to let it in. The second goal, he has a good 20 minutes to get across and dive.

I like the look of Chery and Luongo, both can keep the ball moving and fluid BUT we do need more movement to create an option for a final ball. Jamie Mackie was our best player on the part today by a country mile; never stopped running and actually looked like he wanted to score.

Paul Konchesky and James Perch will both be good signings, but it is clear neither of them are currently up to match speed.

All in all, we need to sign a quick winger who can be direct and make runs off the ball. A centre forward who can play a lone striker and hold the ball up. A keeper to be number 1, not an understudy. And obviously another centre back, although Hill and Onuoha did play well today. Charlton will grow and take points off teams as the season goes on, but they were there for the taking today.

At last. Someone who sees Phillips as he really is!

No it isn't. 2 seasons ago, we finished 4th and won the play offs. During this season, we had a number of defeats to mid table sides that we should be doing better against e.g. Reading, Charlton, Bournemouth, Forest, Blackburn etc.

Exactly, good post and may I add that when we won The Champs remember we lost 4-1 away at Scunny, our heaviest defeat of the season. We were champions and Scunny went down. Again, this is why the championship is such a good league, very unpredictable. But this logic is lost on todays doom mongers after one game. Dear oh dear.

Spot on, Ramsey ran out of tactics and ideas very quickly last term, Kevin Bond was likely his saving grace at the two away wins. Shown nothing so far to warrant the job.

A shocking pre-season has bitten us already.

Only Rotherham below us till next week.

Good job the season doesn't end until next May then. That's May 2016! 2016!

Not a detailed report below & I'm reserving judgement until we are a few weeks in to the season, but from a personal perspective I have nothng but praise for some Charlton employees.

What a day!

A few problems with Grotty (Greater Anglia Railways)led to having a drink at London Bridge rather than having time to visit The Rose of Denmark. Then the day got worse!

We arrived at the ground around 2.30 only for Iain to discover that he had lost his match ticket on route! After a while of being sent from ticket office to another we were in our seats around 3.10.

Here, a big thank you must go to Charlton Athletic for how they dealt with the situation. In particular, the lady who is in charges of the turnstyle operators at the away section. In the end she ordered that Iain should be allowed admittance as she took pity on a senior citizen who still need to take control of a man in his thirties!

Then to the match. I've been told that for the first ten minutes we were in control & looking comfortable. For the rest of that half we were still the better side but at no pont did we look as if we could score. Tghe second half was a different matter.

Charlton deserved their win in the end, but it might have been different if we had built up attacks at a higher tempo. Whether this was due to a lack of movement ahead of the ball or that we felt we needed extra touches of the ball I will leave to others to address. Also, Green being beaten (again & again & again) at his near post cost us dear. The match was over directly they scored.

Man of The Match? Without doubt the lady employee of Charlton!

I think we all need to be realistic, almost a whole new squad and a rookie manager.
It will take time to find our feet and gel..imo CR wont get 10 games if it goes elevated juggs!
Personally I would have tried to get a seasoned championship boss.but we didnt. so lets try to be
behind the team even though were all hugely dissapointed with todays result.

Bad luck on your son losing his ticket terryb. Kids eh! You wouldn't get adults doing anything so careless and irresponsible would you?
Good on Charlton for sorting you out.
