Well that game has knocked all of the pre season optimism out of me, I'm getting into the midset of it being a long season fighting relegation. In a way the final result sugarcoats how bad we were. In defence we were awful, Kaboul having an absolute nightmare, in midfield Cattermole looked a million miles away from being match sharp and when he's like that he's nowhere near a premier league player. Rodwell was his usual uninspiring self and was lucky not to get sent off diving into tackles when already on a yellow, Larson never really influenced the game either. Lens didn't look great, a few glimpses of his quality but it looks like he'll take some time to settle into the league, AJ was ineffective as ever and Defoe doesn't look well suited at all to being in the middle of a front 3. Fletch nodded in from 5 yards other than that he was dire his passing was terrible, on the plus side I though that Mathews did well when he came on, he certainly played better than Jones.

Pretty much how I saw it. We looked miles off the pace all over the park.

We were outworked and outplayed by a very average side today, very disappointing and we need to improve very quickly with a lot of winable games at the start of the season. I hope Dick's going to crack the whip this week both with the players and with Congerton to get some quality in further up the pitch.

Just finished watching it and the poor marking was our undoing for the openers. Bring back JOS .
 
I actually think Ultimate Mackem is a well known poster here under an alias, getting kicks, he knows to much private stuff and so my mission begins..

Now we've brutally assessed ourselves, what about the refereeing? Shocking! two players should have been sent off. Morgan when Fletcher did him and he was the last man and Rodwell for two yellows. The fourth goal came straight of the back of one of those decisions. Kaboul was yellow carded for should barge. Going to be a long and frustrating seasons with the officials again i bet.
 
can't believe there isn't a single mod on to deal with this. Is there anybody who is on at these times willing to be a mod because clearly the 4 we have can't devote the time.

I'll stop mate. I keep stoking the fires and it doesn't help. Don't ban him though. Even though he is a special case, his football chat is decent. To say I wasn't looking for it would be a lie.
 
Watching the match now on Sky, 1-0 now, undone by a good set play.
