The first vans I remember were Walls. They were solid blocks of ice cream. The first of the soft kind was possibly Notarianni in Crowtree Road at the top of the old bus station.
Whippy was the one pretty much took over the vans.

The Sykes ginger beer was in a stone flagon. I had one (wrapped in a sheet) as a hot water bottle as a nipper.
