Police wrong for using water cannons on rioters?

Is this ****e still going? Let's just leave it at this -

Unionists have a right to hold parades just like we do on St Patrick's Day and when we hold a Fleadh.
They also have the right to celebrate their culture just like we do when we remember events like the 1916 Rising.
Anyone who does not like it has the right to peacefully protest and rioting is unacceptable and the police should be able to use whatever means necessary to restore order.
Both sides need to shoulder some of the blame for the unrest and the blame game is counter productive and juvenile.
The country is never going to change until both sides recognise the rights of the other to their religion and culture.

Now grow up and get back to work.

Scumbags rioting from both sides of the community. I won't be taking the rebelboy approach and saying one side are better the other or how it is understandable for one side to do it.

The people who police are streets are getting hit with bricks, bottles and petrol bombs. Anyone with an ounce of sense would say, send in the peelers and soak the lot of them.

Then there will be the people that say 'No you can't do that, it would be better to sit back and watch.'

I see you want to join the police Chic? You will learn very fast that there is a word called "proportionate". Your actions should reflect this. "Any means necessary" is dangerous. You are not there to pass judgement Chic.
 
So to sum things up

Rebelboy believes;

- It is understandable for nationalist rioters to attack the police
- It is not undertandable for the police to fight back with water cannons
- The men walking past Ardoyne silently are to blame for the police being attacked
- The police are more lenient on loyalist rioters
- The police should sit back and hope that each riot fizzles out rather than take action
- A man sentenced to jail for a number of bombings and shooting someone in the head is correct in saying the use of water cannons was premature
- Me and my family are bigots depsite do evidence on here, the fact that he has no idea who I am, who my family are or even my religion for that matter.

Do you ever stop to listen to yourself?

I actually don't recall water cannon being deployed on the mainland of the UK in recent time, I may be wrong though.

As I said, I did not even waste my time reading the news report so I have no idea of the levels of violence, however, the alternatives are hardly soft, tear gas and baton rounds.

I was of the impression that people/rioters/whatever should be warned by Ploice to clear the area before any of these steps were taken.

You know doubt share the same views about the Ancient Order of Hibernians?

They are exclusively catholic and march every August I think. Would it be understandable to attack them?

They also organise some of the biggest St.Patricks day parades across the states these days.

Would it be acceptable for non-catholic New Yorker's to hurl bricks, bottles and petrol bombs at them?

Maybe because I don't believe it! There are scumbags on both sides. People who haven't a clue about what they are doing to their own community and people who simply like to riot.

In case you haven't realised, there is trouble near enough every week in Belfast and especially at interfaces were the 2 communities meet. Do you want me to comment on every situation that occurs. Like I said, the trouble in East Belfast was between two sets of thugs and I would have quite happily seen all of them blasted with sand cannons!
 
Catholics cause trouble as well.

God, I never knew that, that's shocking.

I only read comments from people (who must obviously be catholics themselves) saying that it is only protestants that cause trouble.

Well, what a turn up for the books.

I thought it was just those pesky protestant IRA types that caused death and violence along with the Britsih Army.

Unionists would point out that GAA have been linked with Republicans in the past and have excluded Protestants and the Police and Armed Forces from joining. Yes, those rules have now been lifted but the association will always be there just like the associations of the OO will always be there for Nationalists. I do recognise that the OO exclude people based on their religion and political beliefs but I also recognise that the GAA and other Nationalist organisations has done the same in the past. Neither side are squeaky clean in NI's problems and as it says in the Bible 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone'.

How exactly are Police supposed to deal with people throwing bricks and petrol bombs at them? Consider the alternatives of plastic and rubber bullets and tear gas and water cannons are the best way of dispelling the crowds.
