gone a bit quiet all of a sudden yes yes I know we signed a few now but I think we need a good few more!! not even any rumors or distant links maybe we're waiting for Bellers to make a decision eh?
In order to remain competitive players of Premiership or near Premiership quality are required. Many of our best players have gone - Bellamy, Bothroyd, Chopra and Oli have been replaced mainly by those of questionable qualily and our new manager - whilst young and enthusiastic - is unproven. Meanwhile other clubs in the Championship - notably Leicester and Nottingham Forest have strengthened their teams considerably. It seems fairly obvious therefore that if further players are recruited quality and not quantity is required. Unless some proven bodies are obtained we are likely to struggle next season and if that happens supporters are likely to disappear in their droves with detrimental implications for our fragile financial predicament. Am I the only one who is pessimistic about our prospects for next season?
I don't mind the quiet as long as the first thing we know about a lead is a guy standing on the pitch hilding a Bluebirds shirt. I'm sure the work is going on behind the scenes even while the lads are sunning themselves.
Boy in blue, that was my thought exactly. I wonder which Caravan park his mother lives in! He is obviously not grown up enough to be living on his own.
whoops, I think that the players signed so far are the type of players that Malky wants, it looks to me that our style of play will be different that it was under DJ. It will take time and I think most of the fans know that and will give Malky and his team time, we should not expect instant results but I think that we will get to the promised land sometime in Malky's 3 years.
Leicester have signed - Lee Peltier, Ricardo, kasper schmeichel, neil danns, sean st ledger, david nugent, Matt Mills & paul konchesky. Nottm Forest have signed - Andy Reid Hardly strengthening the forest squad. Doh!! They have lost earnie & tyson.
Ok, he may have been wrong about Forest but giving the benefit of the doubt that its not a wum I kind of agree with whoops. Ive been thinking where is our spark coming from? Who do we have currently who can show some flair and create something out of nothing? I am reserving judgement on the current set of players but I do not see any one capable of goals like Jay and Bellers scored last season. Of course I would happily take a season of workmanlike performances and 1 nil wins instead!
With the right players around him, Whitts will ghost in and score 20+ again this season.....FACT!! (if he hasn't joined Forest that is) OK, fair enough, some may be penalties, but not a lot - we haven't got Bothroyd and Chops up diving for us this year..... BTW, if Whoops is the same poster as used that name on the Beeb 606, he is NOT a wum.
Statto I think we will see more of a team performance this year rather than shining individuals - although the longer Bellers goes without moving on the more chance we have of him returning. As others have said, I expect more activity when they get back from their summer holiday, after all there is a game v. Charlton to concentrate on tonight when the new guys will have their first opportunity to show their moves and we will have our first peek v. Celtic next Wednesday. Give Malky some time, Rome wasn't built in a day - Redrow weren't around then!!!! Of course Leicester have made some big signings and spent huge amounts doing so, the Man City of our league. That's the only reason Sven went there as he is not someone who can build from within - he is never anywhere long enough. Mind you apart from Mills I don't see any really good players in that list. They still have to gel as a team and it took Man City 2/3 years to get where they are.
MM did say that although he and the first team squad are in spain the seatrch for and talking to, other potential players still goes on. So we must assume he has left instructions on particular individuals and that the scouts are looking for new opportunities. we should hope to see a couple more soon after they get back I'd think. On another tack, if his buys so far are targets for first team places then we are up in numbers having brought in more than we lost. Of course loan players would not count in those numbers. Given that we could have the same number of loan players this term as last (But I hope not) then our squad should be bigger. I'd like to see maybe 1 very good loan player (Guess who?) and then if we are there or there abouts in January maybe 1 or 2 more quality players!
Could this be the beasts more mobile replacement? http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...but-against-charlton-athletic-91466-29056398/
Yes I am the same whoops who posted on Beeb 606 (thanks Sparkey) and my post definitely was not a WUM. I was incorrect about Forest but thought I heard yesterday in a Spanish bar (I live there part time) that they had signed Maynard from Bristol City which I see today is incorrect in that they are only linked with him. Does anybody think the present squad is going to be good enough to get us promoted or even reach the play offs. Where are the goals coming from and is our defence good enough? I agree with Sparkey that Whitts could possibly flourish but as for the rest I am doubtful that they are better than those who have left and at this point in time cannot see how we are going to improve on the last couple of seasons performances. My hope is that we opt for quality over quantity. In response to BluefromBridgend I believe that Leicester have made some excellent signings. Personally I think Schmeicel, Konchesky, St Leger and Nugent (as well as Mills) are excellent players at Championship level and I would have welcomed any one of those at our club.
Leicester are trying to buy their way out. Appart from that I don't think many teams have strengthened that much. Leeds are losing players with Gradel the latest touted to go. Forrest are struggling to recruit and have lost players. I don't think the players we've signed are as good 'man for man' as those we have lost, but I believe we will see a better team performance this year. Whether the whole can be greater than the sum of the parts we will find out in due course as we will find out if a TEAM of 'lesser' players is better than a GROUP of better players. I'm hopeful that it will be.
Absolutely a spot on comment. Given that, a marquee signing (or two) would put us in a very strong position compared to last year. The difference is that these new guys are all contracted players who will want to push on. The likes of Koumas, Oli, Lloyd-Samuel, Drinkwater & Co all realised they were never destined to stay - in hindsight they were a luxury that backfired on DJ. A decent mobile frontman (Goodwillie?) on the books will hit the spot if we can then get Bellers back along with a real quality midfielder on loan. Along with the fresh approach the new manager and his staff will bring, I reckon that could do the trick for us.
Good comments. I like where we are at the moment, I just dont see us as being as strong as last year as it stands. Agreed 1 or 2 signings could make all the difference. To be completely honest I dont really know much about most of our recent signings. It could be that the likes of Conway may have me on the edge of my seat all season.
Still a long way to go before the transfer window closes, the prem teams cast off those not required and loanees become available, ccfcremote i think put it into prespective with his excellent comment. Personally im very happy with the players that have been brought in just bellamy and a couple more should be ok to start the season with.
