Rubbish he accelerated the closures and then made himself president for life
And bringing the miners out when summer was approaching getting into bed with Gadaffi and refusing to have a strike ballot top man alright

The uncomfortable truth is that he called the situation exactly right, but played it all wrong.
The Tories closed the mines for reasons of revenge ( for bringing down the Heath government).
They have been on a kick the workers crusade ever since. This austerity bollocks isn't about balancing the books it's about political dogma and shafting the ordinary joe.

Have to agree. Scar gill called it exactly right about Thatcher's actions. The mines would get closed, communities wrecked and we would end up paying huge amounts of money bring in imported coal and fuel while ours remain sitting underground. That his tactics were wrong is indisputable

Scargill may or may not have accelerated the closure of the mines, but this is academic, as The Wicked Witch, using Sir Keith Joseph's blueprint, planned on closing them anyway. Continental coal was much cheaper, and it was essential that she had the electricity industry using this cheap coal so that she could sell off the last of the family jewels, which she did in 1990, just 4-5 years after the strike. The tories sold almost all of our nationalised assets to generate billions of revenue, which covered up their disastrous management of the economy. Once all of these assets had been sold off, this mismanagement became clear, leading to the tories falling from Government in 1997, as the economy spiralled out of control.

It comes as no surprise that they have learned nothing from this, and have doubled the National Debt to 1.5 Trillion Pounds in he last 5 years - a level that has never been pondered before, far less reached! If only Maggie hadn't sold all the family jewels - they'd have been able to sell them now. The only weapon they have now is to blame the previous incumbents, but as we all know, this has been used rather too often, far too inaccurately, and more and more people are now understanding the results of the tory mismanagement.

Very eloquent put WJ. It still doesn't solve our left wing problem though

You still banging on about a left winger? We've got 3 who can play there - Erwin & Doukara (who will fight it out) & Walters, who although a natural left winger, is not getting any game time to try him out.

Wake up & smell the coffee - we ain't gonna sign a winger. It's not in Roslers plans - either that or Walters is on the way out too.

A post of such considered opinions wonderfully crafted, who did you steal it from?

Meant to be humorous but as you've gone into one, what you've described above is frankly rediculous if we're seriously thinking about a balanced team and promotion. Play one of two people out of their natural position try or an untried kid, that's the answer.
I presume you're wide awake but have no sense of smell if you think the lack of a left winger is Rosler's decision and not down to that of our dear esteemed president.

It's exasperation, old boy! I don't think it's down to Cellino. After all, Walters is a natural & is available for selection, but Rosler refuses to pick him t try him out with the first team. Doesn't that tell you a story?

Yes, it tells me an untried academy player isn't ready for the first team yet. Not all of them are WJ.

You could well be right, but we've played other academy players who aren't ready yet, such as Killock & Phillips, although both are in the same first team squad as Walters. And didn't Walters get game time too last season?

Btw, I'd love a left winger. I'd also love a right winger - after all, who else will take Byram's place & perform as consistently?

Wasn't meant to be aggressive (Glory you **** stirrer) but none of the above are ready to get us promoted, they're not the class of Woodgate et al

I know a right winger.
