Just reading a bit about Romero that United signed. He was 2nd choice at Monaco, 2nd choice at Sampdoria last year and many in Argentina believe shouldn't even be 2nd choice for them let alone first choice as have 2 better keepers.

Interesting to to see people raving about him when he's hardly played football for the last few years!

stop using facts to make plastic mancs look stupid.

you have to descend to thier level and defend the ginger minger we have in goal so they can laugh at you.....
 
I think it's embarrassing by the club to leave him out of the pic.

Fans expect players to run through walls etc etc blah blah but the lad has been criticised by his own fans, manager and even teammates for everything he does.

Who in their right mind would want to play for a bunch of ar*eholes at this club?

He's not that good - but he's certainly better than Adam Bogdan, that's for sure.

I have to agree with you, that's a poor way to treat someone if this is true. However the newspapers are the ones turning this into an issue. On a side note I do feel Ballotelli has been made a little bit of a scape goat. His long range shooting was his biggest problem last season i.e. did it way too much. However the work rate problem I felt was a bit of a myth.

Was massively the scapegoat - Rodgers once blamed him when he wasn't even playing!

Workrate is a myth - unless you're running around for 90 mins like a headless chicken, you're deemed lazy.

Yet, fans want to convince themselves that Sturridge and Benteke are hard workers when they're actually not - but they score goals so we can let them off.

Rodgers didn't have a clue on how to manage Mario or get the best out of him - Mario has been 1 in 2/2.5 striker over his career but completely failed at LFC. Fans want to blame this all on Mario but Rodgers completely shafted the team last season.

I wanted this to work, the lad has bags of potential, his ceiling is a lot bigger than most if not all the strikers we have..
If reports are to be believe that he couldn't be arsed to put in a decent shift training, whilst others are busting a gut, why should he expect to be given a starting role? Would that not condone his behaviour and set a bad example, esp. to the younger pros?

This. We don't know what goes on during training etc... There's no doubt he has potential but loads of players have potential, the right attitude is what gets people to the top.

I think both both need to take the blame, Rodgers clearly didn't use him the best way possibly but balotelli never really helped himself and when given a chance hardly showed why he should be a first team starter.

Exactly, none of us have the first clue what is going on every day in training, meetings etc. He's almost certainly a little **** about and Rodgers aint having it - you don't just get **** on for no reason and I think links with 3rd tier Italian clubs speaks volumes.

Aye, BRodge doesn't get off lightly in this case..
But I do think the injury to Studge cost the lad.. he looked great as part of a two man strike force but he's not able to play on his own..
If he needed some runners around him, then whilst Studge was out, he could have played a work horse in the likes of Borini around him..
But, Alas, a bit too late now..

Yep, additionally it's worth noting that Balotelli's statistics are spoilt by the vast amount of times he was asked to come on to the pitch at the 65 minute mark. Pundits declared that "Balotelli has not scored in x amount of games" but Is it really fair to count 25 minute performances as whole games?

I don't actually remember the guy having a long enough spell in the team (playing from the start) to actually gain some consistency. As for his work rate, i recall the majority of us being surprised with the amount of ground that he covered. He is never going to be what we needed at the time: a mobile striker, but the issues people had were due to his decision making and long shots as apposed to his workrate And this was argubly due to lack of game time.

In hindsight, the club probably needed a better striker (one that can score 25+ a season) as well as one suited to our system. However, I still believe Mario could have offered goals for the team and could have offered more than last seasons Sterling playing in that position.
 
I think we needed someone that would chase and offer lots of movement and possibly score 10 goals a season than someone like balotelli that could potentially score 20 but didn't really suit the style from previous year.

Everyone knew he doesn't put a shift in in training, he never has!

Rodgers knew all about his reputation and his behavioural issues before he signed him.

But he still chose to take him on....

Why? As a ****ing vanity mission imo, to prove to his one time Mentor ( a man who called Balotelli unmanageable) that he could tame him and get a tune out of him.

Guess what? He came to Anfield and acted in the same way he'd done every where else. Even Taarabt (who Redknapp described as the worst trainer he'd ever seen!) described Balotelli as being lazy in training ffs!

Rodgers took a massive punt on Balotelli and for all the wrong reasons imo, the fact that it's been a total disaster of a move should surprise no-one. Mario is a massive twonk and always will be.

I agree, that's what we needed. But it's further evidence that Rodgers has wanted a big target man instead.
