Seems excessive but what does it have to do with Kirk Broadfoot? No need for him to stick his oar in.
Likely just an over-reaction to McClean's stance, who really needs to get his head out of his arse and concentrate on his football.
Damn.....I was going to name him as their goalscorer in the prediction league when we play them on the 22nd August..........Now I've got to try and find another Rotherham player......
I don't think there's anything to suggest he's not concentrating on his football. He stood still while everyone else turned left to pay homage to a flag and then went and scored a very good goal in that match. It's the reaction of people, most of whom probably haven't seen it, who create this bandwagon against him while he seems to be doing quite well for himself.
I believe Broadfoot is a member of the Orange Order in Scotland. So the two of them are well suited. Its the Muppet Show
Tony Pulis has no doubt set him straight on the expectations of a club footballer - what he does outside of the game is his business.
I reckon Pulis cares about little more than the number of goals he can create. He probably should toe the party line but for me it completely belittles the concept of freedom of expression if we are forcing people to do things like this. It would be different if he was doing something actively anti-British but he's actually not doing anything while others do do something, if that makes sense.
Nope not magic beans, in £’s And 45p out of every pound he earns is being used to contribute to funding the British Armed Services he has such an issue with. If he felt that strongly, rather than facing a different direction to his team mates he could **** off overseas and earn a wage where he doesn’t contribute literally millions of pounds to fund the armed services.
Or he could just work in the UK, the country in which he was born, and work and pay taxes there. I'm sure a lot of people disagree with things our army has done down the years such as Iraq. Should they all emigrate?
Reading that article again it looks like the Rotherham player's incident happened back in March so its unrelated to the anthem thing.
You’re going off on a bit of a tangent there. 1st separate point being discussed. James McClean can move to a new country and play his football in England. In doing so he can play literally millions of pounds in taxes to fund the British armed services that he clearly has such an issue with. If his conscious can deal with that then fine. BUT if feels that strongly then it is fair enough that other people look at him and call him a ****ing idiot if he thinks that facing in a different direction while a song is playing proves more of a point then him helping to fund the services he has such an issue with. But as he clearly is such a thick prick he wont get the irony that he thinks facing in another direction while a song is playing proves more of a point then him funding that same organisation he has such an issue with. The second and completely separate point doesn’t hold enough relevance to bother responding on. Its just too far removed.
Why's it far removed? Firstly he's British so it's not likely he's migrated here to work and then complains about anything. He actually doesn't complain at all- people just throw a hissy fit when he chooses to politely employ freedom of expression and not bow down to a flag or symbol of war. It's pointless if people are forced to do it. There's nothing to suggest he has a big issue with it. Personally I don't wear a poppy either but that's not because I dislike or don't respect the armed forces. Perhaps he loves living here and loves every single thing about the English/British way of life (delete as appropriate) apart from not wanting to be seen in support of the armed forces, or even just one conflict involving them in the past. I'm sure everyone has things about this country we disagree with but, like McClean, we were (mostly) born here and like enough things about the country to want to live here. Lastly, whatever small amount of tax, relatively speaking, McClean pays, a small percentage of it goes to the armed forces. I doubt he has any issue with the current conflicts we are in so I doubt it's much of an emotional debate for him.
I'm sure he couldn't give a **** but, as much as we like to pretend, England isn't really a country- the UK is. McClean has as much right to live and work here as someone from London or Birmingham.
Yes. There are a lot of dislikeable people in the country. Someone Choudary clearly dislikes 'our' way of life and tries to live in a mini Middle East while benefitting from the luxuries of being a British national. I don't think McClean quite fits into the same category.
Do you not see you are missing the point? McClean is a Republican and if it fitted in with his view NI wouldn't be part of the UK. And regardless of that, 2% of GDP is spent on armed services. So roughly 1p out of every pound he earns goes to them. Was petty and disrepectful to turn away and whichever way you look at it that was pointless. Especially when considered he has opted to just sign a contract with a team where he will be a not insignificant amount of money to those armed services
I'm really not missing the point. You're advocating him moving to another country because he disagrees with the actions of our army 40 years ago. For the record he didn't turn away. He just stayed where he was. It might be petty to you but perhaps it means a lot to those close to him. How unnecessary is it in 2015 to pay homage to a flag anyway? Even if NI wasn't part of the UK, he's not actively protesting against anything. He's literally doing nothing- standing still facing forward- and people are losing their **** over it.
