SECRET LIGHTNING looks on a very strange mark but but I dont think rank outsider is right and laddies look very generous offering 8s in a 5 horse affair secret ran 10f in a respectable time in g/s and a very fast time in better conditions . A few in the field have yet to go the trip and the fav has yet to try the weight .liam jones operates very smoothly with appleby . Bit of a risk but 8s is worth it

Exosphere is an absolute ****ing banker in the 4 05 with smullen onboard. Roxy star should make it 4/4 in the 3 30. Nice little 24/1 double. Green door should get back to winning ways now he's being trained by Cowell too 14/1 is huge

Just off to the old bunk after watching the Canadian open highlights.

Interesting point raised about Robert Allenby sacking his caddy half way through the round and hiring a spectator to continue the pleasure of carrying his sticks because he needed to blame someone else for the fact he's done nothing and never won 'owt.

I'm sure a lot have read the secret ballot (pound for who remembers a horse of the same name, two jockeys, owner and trainer) from 122 PGA players who wouldn't mythically step in a car park fight and help a fellow Pro,22 stated the unpopular Bubba..(staggering percentage!) the next on the list was strangely Allenby.

Maybe not so strangely at all...despite the fact he rarely even plays in the top events these days.

Hello, all. By ‘eck is it raining right now. If Ascot, over the county line, get this weather that ‘good to firm’ will change very quickly.

Not wagering on any of these but am looking forward to see how Hakka gets on ‘ooooooooooooooop’ at York (8.00). As I’ve detailed elsewhere is wonderfully bred being by Dansili and out of a Group 1 winning mare. Did it very nicely last time and looks capable of being a lot better than an 85 rated horse.

Meanwhile, in the 2 Listed affairs for fillies, am also keen to see how Yasmeen (3.30 Ascot) and Crystal Zvezda (7.30 York) fare. Both showed immense promise earlier in the term before disappointing, for one reason or another, at Group 1 level last time. Retrieval missions for both today.

Good luck to those who do punting today.

Because of the rain the odds on Clever Cookie are capsizing and he’s now as low as 12/1 for tomorrow’s ‘King George’. He was 33’s four hours ago. In contrast The Golden Horn has drifted from 1/2 to 8/11 in the same space of time.

With the strong possibility of rain today at Ascot (afternoon) and Newmarket (evening), the state of the going could be a complete guess, so I will not be touching either card. Why do I have the feeling that if it buckets down in Berkshire, tomorrow morning Golden Horn will be a non-runner...

Up at York the 7:30 looks to be between Crystal Zvezda and Pamona. With the former fitted with a hood after her abysmal showing in The Oaks, there are sufficient grounds to not get involved at the odds on offer as the Ribblesdale form of the latter has hardly been advertised.

Looking at the Ascot declarations for Saturday, it is a very disappointing card. The opening Listed race has attracted just four runners whilst the closing handicap has just six. The Ladies’ Race is always a no bet as is the 29 runner cavalry charge. Too much rain will definitely see at least Flintshire defect from the big race. As I am likely to bypass the seven runner Princess Margaret at the odds, the third race looks like the only chance of a bet.

I am sure there is some reason why Bushcraft is declared for the cavalry charge over a new trip of seven furlongs rather than the six furlong cavalry charge up at York – he was entered in both.

A bit of rain and blow me down they are frightened. Earlier in the season they were worried about it being too firm.

Ribot ran on whatever was put in front of him. So did others.

    Afternoon to all.
At last, I'm posting after months of lurking
    Any thoughts on 16.35@Ascot?
Is this a trip too far for Midlander, a horse I watched at Chester recently?

The Senior Open has just been postponed at Sunningdale because of lying surface water and flooded bunkers.

Could be a right old mud bath at Ascot tomorrow if the forecast is correct.

Over the county line it's bordering on that already. Been absolutely hammering it down now for almost 5 hours. Ascot just had its first change of going - now good. Something tells me that won't be the last reported change over the course of the next few hours.

Good old English weather. If Golden Horn runs tomorrow it could well class him as an outstanding racehorse. I hope the weather doesn't play the key part in the race.

I see Green Door has left Olly Stevens and has his first run for the crack sprinter trainer. I will be watching with interest, especially as he is one in the field who could be good on softening ground. Over at Ascot in the sprint handicap. 16/1 looks fair, no?

Is this true re Green Door??? Have heard this story but always been very sceptical about it and wonder if it’s nothing more than an urban legend. He was so called because yonks ago Green Door was a hit for some crooner called Shakin’ Stevens. He used to be owned by that Qatari chap (Sheikh) and he used to be trained by Stevens. Hence the link from Shakin’ Stevens to Green Door.
