My gut reaction was to try and find the closest wall to bang my head against, but if he's signed very much as a third choice striker, to be used as a target man for our (many) attacking midfielders to play off when we're struggling to unlock a team, perhaps it's worth the punt. Would have to be low wages.

Not any endorsement, but I see Darren Bent scored 12 goals in 12 matches for Derby last season in the Championship. How would Carlton Cole stack up against him? Sounds like a typical HR old boys network signing if it happened - hopefully just journalistic posturing.
I'm waiting for some ITK who communicates in 10 words to reveal that we are about to sign John Terry and the other Cole - a positive antidote to the years of Ferdinands dismantling our defence with every creaking move
