In fairness

dortmund are a fine example of what we should be about.... and controversially for jimmy we ARE about.

dortmund went bankrupt in effect 10 years ago? they had bayern munich give moeny to pay the wages there. heir stadium was sold and its now a lease.

LFc went into administration in all but name in october 2010. we got away with it in other words. FSG bought us as a basket case on the cheap but it was ONLY FIVE YEARS AGO!!!!

Since then a building process has been undergone with a lot of learning occurring along the way. however we have not got Dortmund easy league where you can get cl without being an oil sheilk. We do however have oodles of tv cash but 4 big big teams spending anything they like to keep top 4. LFc finally after 5 years has an actual squad, its had its best players bought like suarez and even sterling but has invested every penny back in.

how about Juve? biggest club in italy relegated. bounced back in 7/8 years. actually had zero fecking competition really and it had no issues once it was propped up to get back up to top division. inter imploded and ac did too so nobody took over the top 3 slots for CL and locked them out.

Sevilla are an entirely different matter. They have focused on winning the europa and did so twice but sell all their players and are not really chasing top 4 in spain like atletico

Atletico have not had financial meltdown but have after a very long time being totally mismanaged by an egotist have built and built and have a sensible structure and excellent player aquisition policy...

................................

the problem here is one of... ARE YOU MAD..... in 5 years we've turned a disaster round to a state where FSG have stuck shedloads in.. started real expansion at anfield, with more we hope... in an ideal world it'd be 75k but nobody can make the ideal occur without the council developing transport.

they have given every penny in the FFP allow to buy players too. we have to have seen all of the big sales being reinvested now.

and most of all.

rodgers has got every chance to build his team... every chance. this comittee bullshit needs to stop he gets his choice. he can refuse.

LFc have a full squad of players going into the seasn for the first time in a long time. in 213/14 we'd moses and played 5-2-3 with a loanee at ACM. who was trash... due to injuries.

In 09/10 we had **** all. kyriakos and n'dog.

08/09 we relied on gerrard and torres and has 2 decent players on the bench.

LFC literally can pick 3 teams at this point.

mingolet
clyne skertl sahko moreno
henderson can milner
frimino benteke coutinho

Bogdan
gomez toure lovern enrique
lucas
allen lallana
markovic
Sturridge Ings

Ward
wisdom ilori Jones flanagan
Ibe rossiter teixteria ojo
origi badontelly
Not left any trash in bar balotelli who i think is unsalebale. the only kid in there is llyod jones as the rest have all at least made a debut with seniors.

you could contend CB and CM and LB are weakest areas as the they are not all that but FFS over 5 years to get here... we've got as far as we can due to natural wastage and injuries ending players usefulness (if enrique and lucas has not got injured they'd be more than enough)

Of which, £32m was spent on one average player. We don't need to do that.

And limited is used in context when comparing to the richer clubs - we simply cannot compete, therefore we have to follow their models because they operate in similar environments.

These models work when everything falls into place? It's unlikely?

It's happened to 3-4 teams in 2-3 different leagues so it's hardly unlikely.

So copying a WINNING model is mediocrity? So what do you suggest? We buy superstar players for massive prices and copy the bigger, far superior, and far richer clubs??

In your opinion!

That list of A.Madrid strikers is very impressive but none of them (well, apart from the poor relation that is Forlan) were known before they were signed!

Because they were well scouted - they develop extensive scouting networks courtesy of the Sporting Director (same with Sevilla and Dortmund).

They took gambles on Falcao and Diego Costa both delivered success - now they're in a position to attract players like Mandzukic and Vietto.

We took gambles on Sturridge, Coutinho, Sakho, Can - when all fit, they can easily form a strong spine of the team - costing less than £50m. Even Migs cost little. And whether you agree me or not, but these players are committee signings. This is the model we need to be following

All I'm saying is that we need to be smarter. Buying from the PL is such poor business because a) the players we do buy are not good, and b) their fees are ridiculous.

Now that's not to say there aren't any good players in the PL because there are but for the same price, we can 2-3 players of equal ability from abroad.

Now if Firmino had the same last 2 seasons in PL, he would be worth double what we paid for him, I'm pretty certain of it.

Typical Jimmy - makes some good arguments but finishes it off with wizard of oz stuff. You've signed an unknown 23/24 yr old for £30m. I think that's bad enough mate <laugh>

We signed him for £22m - the addons are based on future success.

And he's unknown to plebs such as yourself. If you care to watch football that's not shown on MOTD, you probs would have noticed Firmino because he's been a top performer over past 2 years. <ok>

personally.....

it was a complete waste of time doing said poll as its a "look at this shiny marquee signing v look at this kid" type of thing. the plastics etc are always going to pick the shiny expensive option.

The reality is it doesn't matter cos sources say we are not going near pedro nor illaramende so......

if it was 42% pedro 41% ibe thats actually a decent pat on the back for the kid.

my own view is its a shocking indictment of lallana that he was not in there.
It also depends how the poll is conducted and who can be arsed voting. Just inviting people to vote on a website is hardly going to give you a representative sample.

He's £29m and you know it.

Really? So he would have been someone you spoke regularly about over the last 2 years then?? Thought not <ok>
You dont know me Jimmy; I watch plenty of football outside the prem. It's obvious though that nobody watched or rated Firmino on here before you signed him. And certainly not at £29m which goes back to the original point.

To be fair to Jimmy, he's was all over Firmino last summer.

Fair enough but to 99% on here he is an unknown. His MOTD comment could equally apply to them but once again that's Jimmy! The point still stands though, you can't talk about overpaying for Firmino if he was British, when you've overpayed for him anyway. Up until that daft comment he'd made some decent arguments.

I can recalled specifically jimmy mentioning frimino i think 12 months ago.

No - we paid £22m with the rest being add-ons. Similar to how we got £44m for Sterling. The add ons may never be paid depending on the clause.

£22m for an exciting talent is a very good price - on par with our deals for Torres and Suarez (in terms of their hype and value).

i think at least utd fans can be happy their drunken name forgetting manager is not buying llorente if astro is right. buying a younger player with potential to grow.

Pity hoffenhiem have so much cash :bandit: they will be able to sit back and charge utd 50mil.
