Liverpool have reportedly approached Barcelona forward Pedro ahead of a possible summer transfer move.
The 27-year-old, who has made over 200 La Liga appearances for the Spanish giants, has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United recently, with Pedro even allegedly telling friend's he's off to Old Trafford.
But Mundo Deportivo says it was in fact United's rivals Liverpool who have made contact and are now looking to get the deal done.
The Reds have already signed Christian Benteke, James Milner, Danny Ings and Nathaniel Clyne in this transfer window, but remain on the market and are believed to be interested in signing Pedro in shock deal.

Pretty desperate of Liverpool's transfer people to tell Pedro that they work for United.

City did the same thing with Robinho.

Lfc need to sell lallana to fit Pedro. Otherwise we are just collecting scrap

Lambert has about 20 suitors it seems so we are hiding him in case and realise he needs a zimmer frame.

Borini seems to have an agenda to get a free. Even moyes is quoted as interested.

Pedro would be an inspired signing at the prices being quoted. An excellent player who's only fault is not being as good as Barca's current front 3 of Suarez, Neymar and Messi. He's never going to get in ahead of them.

I think we can fit both. After all, it would be a like for like swap with Sterling? I just hope we find some way of shifting Borini and Mario

I think we must sell before we can buy now.<applause>

In:
Benteke - £32m
Firmino - £29m
Gomez - £3.5m
Ings - Let's say £7m when tribunal sets fee in december
Clyne - £12.5m
TOTAL = 84

Out:
Coates - £2m
Sterling - £39m (less QPR share)
Aspas - £4m
TOTAL = 45

So not looking at in just raw cash (as benteke is in installments, and sterling has addons) our net outlay is around £40m. I have to say the Benteke signing really has eaten a huge chunk of the kitty.

If we sold Lambert for £4m, Borini for £4m and Mario for £8m then that would take it to a net £24m.

So I guess I agree when yuo look at it, I can't see any more signings now until we shovel out some ****.

Louis van Gaal has hinted at a mystery striker... but who could it be?
Louis van Gaal says Man Utd "are in the process" of signing a striker not previously linked with the club. Who could it be?
United have been linked widely in both the British and foreign press to the likes of Gareth Bale, Harry Kane, Antoine Griezmann, Robert Lewandowski, Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Van Gaal hinted the new man will be a mystery.
“It's not the striker that the media has written about," Van Gaal said. "You have to wait and see."
