Tottenham Hotspur's Mousa Dembele (left) and Sunderland's Wes Brown compete for the ball during the Barclays Premier League match at White Hart Lane, London.
Sunderland look set to miss out on four transfer targets – according to reports today.

The Black Cats have strengthened with four summer signings so far in this window, with head coach Dick Advocaat thought to be keen on adding at least two more – while two domestic loans are also an option to the Wearsiders.

However, with Advocaat confirming he is set for talks with owner Ellis Short today over what next in the transfer window, they look set to miss out on four players they have been linked to.

Moussa Dembele was reported to be on the radar yesterday as another player that Advocaat has previously worked with during his impressive coaching career.

However, today ESPN claim that sources close to the player say the midfielder is set to stay at Tottenham after talks with boss Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer.

The Belgian international struggled for games last season, but with two years left on his contract at White Hart Lane, it is thoughts discussions at the start of pre-season has landed Dembele another chance of proving his worth in North London.

Meanwhile, another midfielder also linked with a surprise move to Wearside was Turkish star Hakan Calhanoglu.

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder could leave the Bundesliga side this summer and reports last week suggested the Black Cats were ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool to land the player.

However, today the Metro claims Arsenal have stepped up their efforts to land the Turkey international because Arsene Wenger is desperate to add a set-piece specialist to his side.

The player himself also confirmed to Turkish newspaper Dogan Haber Ajansı that Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona were also interested.

He said: “It is great that Barcelona and Real Madrid are interest of course it makes me proud to be linked with these clubs but that is for my agent to look into. Let us see what happens.”

Fenerbahce striker Moussa Sow has also been linked with a move to the North East of England this summer.

The Senegal international has just one year remaining on his current contract with the Turkish side and with Robin van Persie moving there last week, reports began circulating that Sow would depart.

However, in Turkey it is said that the striker has been offered a two-year contract extension with the Turkish Süper Lig side, so could still feature in their plans.

Finally, reports earlier in the window had linked Sunderland with a move for Shieffield Wednesday defender Tom Lees.

The defender though, has dismissed reports of leaving the club – telling the Sheffield Telegraph: “The club are not in that position anymore where they have to sell. Maybe last year things might have been different if offers had come in for players.

“Until I’m told any different, I’m a Sheffield Wednesday player. I have come back focused to kick on this season and hopefully we can do that.

“Everything is in Wednesday’s court. I have two years left on my contract. It would be their choosing if I was to leave.”

However, given Sunderland’s capture of Sebastian Coates and Younes Kaboul, it is unlikely that Dick Advocaat would have pursued any interest in the player anyway.

On a positive note were looking at the right sort of players. Apart from the lad from Sheffield Wednesday all the others would improve our side.

He could hit the ground running but chances are he'll need time. The fans won't allow that as they're right in thinking that they need instant impact. Unfortunately for them they'll take it out on the kid and shot themselves in the foot. Just the sort of thing we do but thank **** this one is on them.

If they manage the kid right they'll have paid 12 million for the kid to play most of his football from the bench for the first year. The Mags won't stand for that. If they do it wrong and start from the off he won't impress and the mags won't stand for it. Either way they'll **** this lad up.

For that money I think they start him pal. I can't see them buying other big money forward. If they sign that defender from the same team then that's over 35m for 3 players LOL

Sunderland and Celtic are set for a bidding war to sign 26 year old defender Papy Djilobodji. French newspaper L'Equipe report in their Tuesday edition that Djilobodji is set to leave FC Nantes during the current summer transfer window.

The player has come to some kind of agreement with Spanish club Celta Vigo but his club will instead sell him to England or Scotland, according to L'Equipe. Sunderland Celtic are named as the two clubs in for the player and FC Nantes will quite simply sell him to whichever of the two pays them the most money. Straight and to the point. Djilobodji would be comforted on missing out on Celta Vigo by likely receiving higher wages from either of the two other clubs, especially Sunderland with their Premier League millions.

The bid defender is 6 ft 4 in and so will be able to cope with the increased physical game upon moving from Ligue1 to Celtic or Sunderland, there's no indication of what the price or bids may be.

Dick Advocaat has been promised a good summer of spending by the Sunderland board, it was the only way they got the Dutchman to commit to them for longer than his stint last season. Advocaat really wants to challenge higher up the table with his Sunderland side and to do that he knows he needs to make additions in several key areas.
    Any thing in this

He could go either way like you say mara.
Our signings have only one way to go and that's downhill. Have we got the balls to sign a youngin or even play a youngin?

Not really, 2 are 29, one is 24 and one is 23 <confused>going into their prime at most. 29 is the oldest player. Yes there's no re sale on two of them, it's right at the oldest i'd like but I can't complain at buying a player in their prime. We were so bad last season that we needed instant improvement, not gradual improvement 2 or 3 seasons down the line.

If you think another Connor Wickham style risk is what we need fair do's but we're on different pages. I don't want kids, I don't oap's I wan't somewhere in the middle and that's what were getting so I'm pleased.

I shall be pleased if we add a abit of youth to the side? We have a very experienced side that just needs a little more pace.
