Not sour grapes, Dave, but the only one of your midfielders I FEAR is Mata, and I said that when your current manager seemed to have parked him on the bench at the begining of the season. Chelsea and Arsenal are the teams that have midfields when, if everything clicks, can destroy you. That said, no arguments that your midfield was better than ours last season and is better again with your signings.
Delph is getting a lot of stick... I imagine once he realised Benteke was definitely leaving he didn't want to be the only decent player at the club... what was a 50/50 choice to join City suddenly became easier.
Van Gaal is a moron and only played Mata when forced to. Probably because he wasted £60m on a Januzaj backup. If Mata isn't guaranteed a first XI place Man Utd are not top 4 and Van Gaal is sacked. Simple.
Mata wasn't guaranteed a first XI place last season but we still finished top 4. We're now stronger, Spurs haven't done any real transfer business and Liverpool are weaker. Nice logic as ever Astro. It must be awful being as frustrated as you are!
Of course you're weaker! You've lost your two top scorers from last season! From an attacking perspective you're effectively starting from scratch although I'm sure it will all magically click into place from day one!
Everyone in their right mind knows we're not weaker than last year. Sterling is good but not 49mil good. Gerrard left at the right time imo. Most of his goals were penalties that I'm sure someone else would be able to score this season. Sterling got 7 goals - not hard to replace those 7 goals either. If you do a comparison on those 2 players alone. Sterling gone, Firmino in. Gerrard gone, Milner in. Not to mention Johnson gone, so we no longer have to play with 10 men or with Can in an unnatural position. The future is very bright.
