Now in it's fifth year. So Gentlemen and Ladies what are we reading at the moment? Any good recommendations or one's to avoid? My mrs made me read Gone Girl, you gotta read it Chazz its great. Christ it was bloody awful-stay away.
I read Michael Connelly's Bosch novel The Burning Room too. I like the series but I think his last few have been pretty poor.
So I need some good recommendations. <ok>

I'm a bit late to the party but I finished American Psycho yesterday. I enjoyed it and it left a few questions unanswered.

I think I'm going to read catch 22 next. I've only heard good things about it so hopefully its a good read.

Catch 22's a great book. I've read it loads of times. Highly recommend it Lewis.
 
I read The Burning Room recently; I like the Harry B's too, but I think the series has done its run.

Currently reading The Ancient Paths by Graham Robb. It's about Celtic (in a cultural, as opposed to ethnic, sense) map-making; straight lines and solar navigation before the straight lines of the Roman invasion. Slow-going though.

Crow Fair by Thomas McGuane. Modern short stories set in Montana.

Next up is Robert Macfarlane's Landmarks.

I finally got around to reading The Count of Monte Cristo recently. Bloody long, but Christ, what a fantastic read.

Dennis Lehane's Coughlin trilogy (start with The Given Day) is really, really good.

I'm a devoted Connelly fan. I think Bosch has got a little tired of late, but I still read every one of Connelly's books as soon as they're out. A decent thriller from a lesser-known writer is Tell Me You're Sorry, by Kevin O'Brien.

Stay away from The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair. The French creamed themselves over it, but it's a load of nonsense.
 
Has anyone read Neale Stephenson? I just about survived Cryptonomicon last summer, and I'm thinking I might be ready for another one of his massive thriller/maths geek tomes.
 
Neil Gaiman - Stardust, Neverwhere and The Ocean At The End of The Lane. Like the way he writes fantasy in a narrative threaded through with reality.

The Secret River by Kate Grenville. About a family transported to Aus.

Mozza's biography. I'm determined to finish the 100 or so pages dealing with his courtroom battles with Mike Joyce. Or at least I'm prepared to die trying.
 
The Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch is an absolute must read, it's truly excellent. I'm sat waiting for the next in the series to be released hopefully late this year.

Currently reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erikson, it's a massive scale, over ambitious, a bit silly (not in a comic way, in a getting a bit too carried away way) but if you can get past that, and the awful first book, it becomes very good. Very dark, very gritty, isn't scared to kill off main characters, but what I like about it is how it only gives you pieces of what people are up to, and makes you figure out what's actually going on. A lot of it makes no sense at first, but things start to get explained as it goes along, I'm on the fourth book and there's still stuff from the previous three which it hasn't really explained yet.

You can watch the series of the book of The Secret River online Ernie. Seen a couple of episodes, not bad.

This should keep you going for a while. You won't understand Mexican but you'll throw away your books and keep replaying it forever. She's been offered a job in the Club shop!

I don't read books. I wait for them to make a film of a book, then wait for the film to be available on torrents, then I download it. Simples.
