Guan mentioning a right midfielder suggests a more attacking signature.

I guess it all depends where the club see JWP playing long term.
If he is going to be understudy to Clasie then we should get someone who could play CAM or wide midfield.

If they think JWP should battle with Davis & Juanmi for the CAM role then a more defensive minded midfielder would suit.

Guan said right centre midfielder, but yeah it could be defensive or attacking.

From a poster on SaintsWeb:

According to Italian media agency Mediaset. Atletico Madrid midfielder Mario Suarez is set to snub Fiorentina and Inter and join Southampton. Seems unlikely considering Clasie's impending transfer and the whole Alderweireld nonsense with Atletico, but it's a link.

Neither Inter nor Fiorentina: Mario Suarez near Southampton

As learned by Mediaset, the future of Mario Suarez could speak English. Atletico Madrid midfielder has been linked before to Inter and then at Fiorentina, but at the moment it would appear much closer to Southampton, who has to spend about 33 million euro came from the sale of Schneiderlin to Manchester United and must strengthen its midfield. The Saints would have it, ready to meet the wage demands of Mario Suarez who therefore should not arrive in Italy.

Hmmm, good player but i dont see why we would be in for him. We have it on pretty good authority we're in for a right sided box-to-box midfielder and Suarez doesnt fit that really. Unless of course we do a Shane Long and change his or Jordy's role in the team.

Jordy is more box-to-box, in my eyes. Mario Suárez far more of a Morgan replacement.

Yeah, thats what i'm thinking now actually. We thought Jordy was meant to replace Morgan but his greatest asset is his forward movement and passing. Would make sense actually, and might be what attracted Jordy to come here (apart from Ron) is a chance to move forward and have a freer role in the midfield.

Atletico: Yeah, listen.... sorry about that whole Alderweireld thing, so how about we just send you Suarez instead?

Reed: That.... will do. Yes, I think perhaps we can make that work.
