It's obscene isn't it. I wonder will Sterling feel the pressure of the price tag like other over priced players have.

    shocking news.

the club actually wished him well... surely that last line was "unnecessary"

It was a post error, supposed to say:

Liverpool FC wishes Raheem well... gets his leg snapped in pre-season.

It's been obscene for many a year. If people just accept it then it can only get worse until the bubble bursts.
And we're supposed to be living in a time of austerity.
    Madness.

Well perhaps we haven't reached the eventuality yet.
However, the ongoing effects are manifest, only the clubs at the very top can afford these silly prices and so that keeps them up there in their little elite band. The trickle down cost to the match-going fans is extortionate and increasingly prohibitive for the working-class fan-base of the game.
    It's turned into a rich-man's plaything.

  9. True but pricing out the man on the street actually makes clubs more money. Not only does it see a bigger return on ticket aka but the man on the street that can no longer afford to go is more likely to spend money on getting Sky Sports or/and BT Sports at home. Therefore, it isn't going to end any time soon.

The only way it ends is if fans talk with their wallets but it would need millions, if not billions, to work in unison. It's not going to happen. Sky and BT are just going to get bigger and bigger.

Yes, apart from completed dribbles he matched or bettered in most departments.

Having a better assist/goals total than both Nasri and Navas. Let's not forget how poor young Raheem was all season too<laugh>

  13. Raheem played every game and mostly up front too. I'm also pretty confident he'd have topped the 'open goal chances missed' stat too :)

It's the TV money that's caused the massive player fee and wages hikes, and clubs are deluding themselves if they think that gravy train will continue to increase it's yield year after year ad infinitum.

Once the broadcasters have achieved their aims with the PL association i.e. BT growing it's broadband customer base and Sky growing it's customer base to a size that's sustainable without football, then the revenues will drop like a stone. The worst thing is they probably won't see it coming either as it'll just happen at one of the 3 year tender points.

Regardless of what we think of him, he will be a great player. He's only 20 years old and as he develops his game will get better. It is sad that it won't be at our club. Although he had to go based on the way he went about a transfer. I would have loved to have known how things were between him and the manager over the last 6 months. In one of the clips he runs to Brendan and hugs him, so there was obviously respect their at some point. I wonder what made it all so sour?

Yeah most probably the case, what I mean is though, what the atmosphere was like in training between him and Brendan, and what it was like on match days? More the day to day relationship as a result of all the media drivel and his idiotic agent.

I haven't read the whole thread but here are my views on the OP.

Without question he has the game in his locker to become a world class player, however, I think that locker won't be opened fully due to his bad attitude. The first time I really took this kid seriously was when he scored 5 goals for the U21's in a cup match when he was about 16, at that point I thought WOW this kid is going to something else.

He has progressed and was managed very well (with regards to devolving his game) under Rodgers. Many thought he would simply be a winger but Rodgers managed to get him to play anywhere across the front three with ease. Clearly he's still ruff around the edges and his game needs fine tuning - that's where his attitude may well stump his progression. The trouble is he thinks he's the best about, and he's not - far from it in fact. The fact he's just broken the record for a signing fee will only go to his head even more.

Quite simply if he knuckles down and trains hard he will become one of the best about. Whether he does that is hugely unlikely imo. Man City have got a good player, perhaps a 25mil player. But 49mil is pure craziness and we simply couldn't turn that down - as someone said he's no Suarez, and never will be.

Is he a threat to Liverpool? Of course he is to a certain extent, but then so is the donkey Lukaku. The positive thing is if City play him they'll have to drop one of their other stars so in that sense I can't see him making a huge difference to Man City as a team.

Should we have sold him? Absolutely. His attitude stinks and we really could do without that in the position we're in. It's a shame as I remember when he first got some game time for the first 11 and he did make people sit on the edge of their seat - but he has regressed since then, no question about that. When he was part of SASAS he was the weakest link and often SAS made him look better than he actually was - hence his regression when SAS was no more.

Will I miss him? Yes and No. It's a shame that it didn't work out and he became so big headed, but the fame and fortune got the better of him and that's what he's chasing now. It's so hard to tell right now what he'll be like in 4 or 5 years, if he knuckles down he could be one of the best around. That's a massive IF though, and for us to hang onto him with his attitude to see if that IF becomes a reality when 49mil is shoved under our noises is a no brainier.

The club did the right thing, and I'm pleased with the outcome. We move on - only time will tell what becomes of the little yardie.

He may well have topped that list for open goals. But for a player so poor last season, his teammates kept giving him the ball and his manager kept telling him what to do.

7 goals and 7 assists is still better than Nasri and Navas return for the season, playing every game.....was Sterling that bad?

Did they regularly start for City? They're 2 of the players that City would be looking to replace imo. Good players, but nothing special.
