Chilean midfielder Gary Medel, 27, formerly of Cardiff City, is set to sign for Liverpool this summer from Italian side Inter Milan. (Metro)
I never am. I always want more! Seriously concerned with United next season - their signings are of real intent and I suspect they will go big on a striker.
utd were always going to be good. they are supposedly after cavani next... not sure he is the one perosnally but we will see. For me city are the worst of the top 4 as of now.
so when this deal is announced today when he passes his medical..... do you think there will be instant action or a little pause before we hear what we are doing? I think we need to get in that striker sooner rather than later
Maybe the worst but the gulf between ourselves and the top 4 is widening. United showing us how to spend when you get top 4.
Don't be Jimmy. I am more worried what my team do rather than the opposition. I would rather we build an effective unit like the 2013/14 side and see what we can achieve.
I think one of the guys from the Echo said that because we have already done most of our business early, it means we can be a bit more relaxed over the next month re. getting a new striker in. I think the priority now is to get players out.
I don't necessarily think so. This transfer window has more players available than the last. They still went out and brought Falcao and Dimaria and still struggled. The transfers will only be deemed successful after a season or two and where they finish.
But the two are linked - United are strengthening better than us which will widen the gap (course, that's just opinion). I hope we don't build a team like 13/14 - I want us to have a set style of play which Rodgers will stay true to and develop. That season wasn't a unit - it was a world class attack with a mid table midfield, and a Championship level defence. Also, I do think our first team has improved with the likes of Clyne and Firmino, and Milner (to some extent) and IF Can starts in the holding role. But I just think we need more if we want to close the gap and get back into top 4.
I'd give anything for a 2013/14 team (less the slip) with the focus on improving on how to defend better as some of the goals we conceded were avoidable. I still troll the net hoping we are still interested in Kovacic as I think competition in the middle will go a long way in a pressing game. What I know is unlike Chelsea Citeh and United we will have to be more patient with our signings since most are young and still developing not ready made.
The reality is we would be better off investing the 50 from torres 49 from sterling and 75 from Suarez is the stadium and training facilities and saying ok...... Utd will spend 500 Mil on players arsenal can pony 50 Mil on one. City will spend a billion if they are let We have to build for the enviable day that the cl expands. Italy are feeling the pinch. There are clubs across Europe saying hang on.... why are base and ****e out of eastern Europe at the top table and not us and as unfair as that sounds the next logical step is an expanded cl. It would only require 2 more games to add a team to each group for example and from that add 2 teams into quality etc. Europa league will become a midtable comp as well as it is already. This is all inevitable....
I would hate that tbh, even if it would mean we could get in it. the CL is a prestigious competition, originally for the "champions", then it was enlarged to get better teams in from western European leagues. Imagine a CL where the likes of Stoke, West Ham, etc can get in! sure, they may be better than some eastern European clubs that get into the CL, but thats not what it's about. The solution is to improve the EL, and make that more prestigious. Starting with stopping teams dropping from CL to EL in the group stages.
I fully understand that. The thing is we failed miserably with last season especially after losing Suarez. If your best effort of Suarez leaving is Lambert Balotelli and Borini then you can see why we didn't make top 4. I would like to believe Ings and Origi fit Liverpool better than the current lot from last season. The realization that Sturridge is not dependable will obviously necessitate us signing another ready made striker. Problem is we hardly have many in the market available. If Origi and Ings can get between 15 goals between them, this will be a major lift. But I'd rather blow most of our budget on Lacazette and put a ridiculous release clause as he would be the best possible striker to utilize Couts and Firmy
Giving the winners of the EL a spot in the CL is helping. And to be honest, it is a prestigious tournament - just not in England. Over here, it's considered more a hindrance.
Agreed - we need to go all in and spunk a lot on good striker. We probably will end up overpaying but we have to given we don't have CL. Lacazette, Auba, Volland, Son. There's talent out there but no doubt, we will end up with Benteke which would be a shame.
Liverpool clear to sign £32.5m Benteke as Spurs eye cheaper Batshuayi deal instead LIVERPOOL have been boosted their in pursuit of Christian Benteke, with Tottenham looking elsewhere for striking options this summer. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...e-as-Spurs-eye-cheaper-Batshuayi-deal-instead Jordan Williams will also gain first-team experience elsewhere having completed a loan move of his own to Swindon.
