I think you're missing the point mate. No where in that article did it mention that any other team had made an offer or coincidentally found their yacht where the player they want is getting married and having a holiday.
All it said was that Torres was loyal, which clearly he wasn't. I am not talking about Modder's being honest, I'm talking about the underhanded way that the Russian mafia has gone about trying to get hold of Modric

Ramos and Comolli signed Modric though.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...th-Africa-to-capture-50m-Fernando-Torres.html

Look, Abramovich pulled the same kind of tricks to get Torres, people just forget all this stuff because we got Suarez and found a bit of form under Dalglish.

It is over 600km from Zagreb to Dubrovnic, so not exactly on the door step...and also not the first time RA has been to Croatia either.

Funny isn't it that when the press reports one thing, like for example "LM hands in transfer request" people say "what do they know? where do they dream this up?" and yet when something is printed like "RA goes to Croatia, it's a ****ing huge place, but it must be to intercept LM's wedding day 600 km away and sign him for Chelsea" it all seems suddenly so real.

Surely there would be some sort of image to support a meeting? Given that the press are everywhere...I haven't seen any though...

Can we just cut all this pretense ****? Modric has very clearly been well & truly tapped up by The Chavs. Whether it was done in the U.K. or Croatia, is immaterial. That slimy Russian **** seems to think he can just have anything he wants. In this case, I sincerely hope that Levy tells him to **** right off, and stick his poxy £27mm where the sun never shines.

Modric was signed by Levy, not Comolli, Ramos or Redknapp.
The little prick might want to remember that.

Abramovich didn't go to Modric directly, as far as I can see.
Given that the Croatian's agent is Nikki Vuksan, you have to wonder what Kia Joorabchian's involvement is.

Yesterday it was reported that Chelsea made a formal approach for Cheik Tiote - which begs the question, what's so special about Newcastle that makes Chelsea think it's in their best interests to make bids for their players through the formal channels?

And there was I thinking that, because they tapped-up Villas-Boas, he was under the mistaken impression that's how all transfer deals were done in England...

We approached Porto about AVB, they named their price and we paid it.

We placed a bid for Modric direct to Tottenham Hotspur.

    Tottenham Hotspur rejected it.

We raised our bid direct to Tottenham Hotspur.

    Tottenham Hotspur rejected it.

    Where's the problem with that?

All this acrimony over sod all but paper talk and bitterness, it's a joke.

The real issue is the agents.

Btw...did you see the Downing transfer "Saga"?

    £12.5 million - Rejected.

    £15m - Rejected

£20m - Thanks ever so much, bye bye Stuart.

    It's called a negotiation.

You forgot to mention the part where Porto brought up the £13.5m release clause in his contract, which was followed by Villas-Boas handing in his resignation within hours.

Again, you missed the part where Chelsea prefer to talk about other clubs' players in public, before making a (derisory) bid, and keep talking about them after the bid was rejected.

The part where Modric's tune suddenly changed from "I will honour my contract" to making up some cock and bull story about a gentleman's agreement is also a problem, not least because it's a cock and bull story and the name Chelsea was heavily involved in it.

It's funny that you talk about Liverpool as good negotiators, given they tapped-up Robbie Keane, attempted to tap-up Gareth Barry, and some Newcastle fans accuse them of tapping-up Andy Carroll...

Like it or not, it's the way it happens...and it's part of the negotiation process.

You need to seperate the fact that clubs don't go about it, agents do...sometimes under orders but more often than not to make wedge for themselves...money talks mate, esp when you get to the stupid figures in football.

I appreciate your honourable standpoint, but football isn't an honorable game...it is murky and full of absolute ****ers that you and I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire...

Funny how Modric has suddenly decided that it's Chelsea that he wants to play for!!. Maybe he had a revelation one morning?? Maybe it came to him in a dream?? Maybe he was so fantastically impressed with the way you played against us at your place - whilst winning by two goals that never were. Or, wait a minute, Maybe he was tapped up - Yeah, that's why he's suddenly decided it has to be Chavski.

It's called negotiation - Oh! do **** off!!!!

Tapping up isn't part of the negotiation process.
That's why Chelsea have been repeatedly fined and threatened with a transfer ban, escaping on a technicality.

    Now now, play nice...

Aren't clubs supposed to inform players of any offer made? I think they are...

He could stay at a steady club that is well run that fell short of CL football after their first season in the tournament or...

A top four club comes in for him, potential to win the league and compete in Europe at the highest level and pay him stuuupid money...

Is it any surprise that he wants it.

Would you be as up in arms if it was Man u?

    I doubt it.

Clubs are only required to make players aware of any offers made for them if it's a part of their contract.
That has nothing to do with whether Chelsea are allowed to contact a player contracted to another club, though.

You don't seem to understand the difference between negotiation and cheating.
A lot like your team, in fact.

Yeah the only clubs allowed to exist should be Chelsea and Man U. **** competitive leagues.

It is implied in your point though. If the top players all want to play for the top 4 teams then the top 4 will go on forever. Surely even you would find that dull. The joy is overcoming adversity, achieving more than expected. If we accept the likes of Modric should leave for the likes of Chelsea as soon as they reach a certain level, then there is no point having a league
