Toby Alderweireld has to tie his transfer Tottenham Hotspur . " The transition with five seasons for a total of 16 million euro dominated yesterday the latest football news . Premature , as it turns out a day later.

British media go a step further and say that today Alderweireld makes medical tests at White Hart Lane. In the camp of the player one denies that there is now an agreement.
"We have no one with a concrete agreement ," Vic 's father and agent Alderweireld very clear. " There are conversations right and left. But currently there are no changes from the last few weeks . "

Last year, the Red Devils had to wait a long time for sports security with a loan turn to Southampton. Now angling clubs in July already emphatically for his services.
"We're still early in the transfer window ," Dad Vic remains sober . "We are now just that there is only a breakthrough in the last week . ( Laughs) So we wait as in previous years off . "

Isn't Google translate great? :) We're having enough trouble understanding plain English. This will be interpreted in a million ways so should be worth a few more pages on this thread. :D

Will people stop saying that Saints let this happen....they might have been happy at the last minute when time ran out as they would probably assume he was now ours, but there is no way that this was planned. It is just how it has panned out. This isn't Nicola we are talking about.

I seriously doubt that Atletico was either somehow unaware of the clause or completely forgot it was there.

And anyway, how would we know whether Atletico forgot or screwed up the clause vs. just waiting until the last minute to send us the money?

And anyway, anyway, assuming that Atletico's failure to pay 1.5m means that Saints get to keep Alderweireld instead of Atletico just owing us 1.5m+ interest/penalty would be stupid.

I think this is what happens: Nothing.

Because in a funny way, I don't think things have changed much at all.

Saints insist that Atletico owes us 1.5m (or 3m, or whatever it is) or else we get Alderweireld. Atletico says, "Fine, take us to court and maybe you get your money, or maybe you don't but you're not getting Alderweireld unless we net more than X out of this." So Saints either match Spurs offer or beat it by a bit, or we say "No dice. That's too much."

The July deadline was somewhat arbitrary as a practical matter. Because really we prefer Alderweireld for cheap, but will also take 1.5m as a fallback. And if we get that 1.5m a couple of months later than we should have, does it really matter all that much to us?

So Atletico still has the chance to pay us the 1.5m they owe and sell to someone else... or they can sell to us. If we can get Alderweireld under the terms we originally would have been willing to pay, we haven't been exposed as a soft touch or lost face or whatever. If Atletico sells for more than they get from Spurs, they are happy.

Except why would that be any truer than the rest of the nonsense talked about. No doubt Les is out there....the rest is probably pure speculation fed by what the average fan would do. Except most would top Spurs offer and throw in Katharina's horse at the same time.

Sky Sports are reporting that Saints have now made an offer of €20m to Atlético Madrid, in order to sign Toby Alderweireld.

It says that he's our top target and Les is out there. Our bid is now bigger than that of Spurs.

Obviously hoping this is true but they also say Toby had a medical at Spurs today which his Dad (who should know) refutes

ALDERWEIRELD SAINTS' NO. 1 TARGET
Sky Sports understands that Atletico Madrid defender Toby Alderweireld is still Southampton's No. 1 target, despite the Belgium having undergone a medical at Spurs earlier today.
And we also believe that the south cost club have made an offer of €20m for the player in the hope of turning last season's loan move into a permanent deal this summer.
However, the Saints have yet to receive a response from Atleti

Copied this from the website so don't know what they've said on the TV

Heavens above - signed off late last night - come home from work to catch up on the news and... its "Groundhog Day"!!!!!!!

There are pages more speculation - not saying what's good/bad - all very emotive and... we are no wiser now than last night. I always thought us Saints Fan's are a little masochistic and we are certainly being pushed/pulled to the boundaries on this one; I have a new word for the English Dictionary: "Gaston-hog Day"
