Danny Ings' Liverpool Future in Doubt After Burnley Continue Compensation Dispute
Despite officially signing for Liverpool on a free transfer last month, Danny Ings' future at the club could be under threat after his former side Burnley continue their fight to receive maximum compensation for the player, according to the
Mirror.
It was obvious that the 22-year-old would leave Turf Moor at the end of last season, especially the Clarets failed to stay in the top flight in their first season back in the Premier League. A number of clubs were linked with a move for Ings, but it was Liverpool who secured his signature.
However, due to his age, Burnley are entitled to compensation from Liverpool and as of yet the two clubs have yet to agree on a fee. The Reds' initial offer of £5m has been rejected by Burnley, who see their former striker worth more in the region of £8m.
If the two clubs are unable to come to an agreement then a tribunal will be sued to decide on the final outcome, one of which could see Ings' career on Merseyside come to an end, as a result of Spurs' having reportedly lodged a £12m bid to the Clarets, prior to his move to Brendan Rodgers' side.
Sean Dyche is keen to resolve the situation as quickly as possible as he embarks on reorganizing the Burnley squad ahead of their first season back in the Sky Bet Championship. With Burnley not wanting the issue to go to a tribunal either, it seems that the two sides must continue to negotiate until they reach a fee.
Ings is expected to have considerable playing time under Brendan Rodgers next season, with the likes of Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli all linked with moves away from Anfield. With Daniel Sturridge's injury problems still unresolved, Ings could end up being the club's main out-and-out striker once the new campaign kicks off.
