I see that Newcastle, Leicester and Bournemouth are trying to sign Charlie Austin - though he's hoping Chelsea is going to sign him. I'm sorry, but I don't really rate him,as a fair number of his 18 goals were from the penalty spot..
Got to question why he'd want to go to Chelsea if it's true. Guaranteed to do little but warm the bench and collect a big fat paycheck there! Might get a title medal too id=f he makes enough cameo's I suppose. Bah!
According to the Mail, City are unwilling to meet Hull's valuation of Robby Brady. Fact is, transfer fees have moved up yet another level and if we won't pay £7M someone else will. Bournemouth payed £8M for a championship full back who I believe has played only one full season FFS , it's absolute madness where will it all end ?? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tml?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490
I think you're right, KIO, but the other side of the coin is that AN has to work to a budget and he may not be willing to spend £7m of that on Brady. Our offer could be raised by an amount subject to our PL survival to give some flexibility perhaps.
This is true Rick even though we are now dining at the top table we'll still be shopping in Aldi rather than Waitrose for the forseable future I guess. Mind you it's better than having to rely on Poundland and Charity Shops like our friends down the A140
I did add this later via the edit button KIO: Our offer could be raised by an amount subject to our PL survival to give some flexibility perhaps.
You only have to look at how QPR have fared being reckless with money to see the mess it can get you in. Yes we are Premier League now, but I'm happy as a club that we are reserved with out spending. Personally I think £7 million for Brady is way too much, there are definitely options out there which are better value and probably better players. Personally I would love us to get Nathan Dyer in, I think he's class. Wages is perhaps a different argument but by the sounds of it he wouldn't be costing us £7million.
Well it looks like we've seen the last of RvW as he's poised to rejoin Sporting for a cut price £3.8M http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...orting_lisbon_meet_city_s_valuation_1_4141161 So we've done a cool £4.7M ! ..................... but I'm not blaming Hootun in the slightest
Better to cut the losses and at least recoup something, as opposed to letting him fester in the reserves or out on loan. As you say, an expensive mistake - especially for a club like ours, but to bring in a club record signing and not make the slightest effort to build the team around him is bloody delinquent. £3.8 m might just buy us a LB, CB or wide player who can add something to the squad, something I doubt RvW was ever going to be effective at. Maybe Brighton should be forced to buy him?
How stupid we are, we should have forced RvW to see out his contract at circa £30K per week then let him go for nothing! No wonder we have such large outstanding debts!
I presume that we would also have got a loan fee for him last season and off the wage bill to mitigate the losses. Still a shame that our record signing did not succeed but people have spent more on players and failed. Sadly £8m does not guarantee your a goalscorer these days. A pity he was never really 100% fit or given the correct role within the team and the support necessary but such is life. Let's hope the money goes towards getting someone decent in.
Didn't we get a loan feen from St. Etienne as well (not to mention them paying his wages for a season)?
I suspect that it was a bit like Muzinic who we paid a record fee for in 1980. John Bond admitted afterwards that he had never seen him play but bought him on reputation.
@JamesNursey: @KevinLawesy #NCFC prioritising new striker. Expecting movement once RVW goes. He was biggest earner apparently at club on nearly 40k wk
Not the best bit of business but on those wages it's best he is shown out the door. To be honest I would be comfortable going into the season with Grabban, Hooper and Jerome. I think perhaps we do need another but I would rather we spent all year scouting a big striker next year and making sure we don't get it wrong this time. I would love to see Jerome lead the line as I don't think he has had the opportunity to do so in the Premier League and I am confident he will get goals providing he had a run in the team. I have to say of the targets we've been linked with up front they don't get me too excited. Not sure Gestede is better than anything we've got already, likewise with Murray. Not sure about this Mbokani fella, don't know much about him. The targets I would focus on our Van Dijk and Nathan Dyer.
