How come the batting that was so good in Div 2 has become so bad in Div 1?..surely the bowling isn't that much better?

D2 teams usually have one, maybe two, decent bowlers. But nothing in support. No D2 teams have depth to their bowling attacks. Most D1 teams however do.

And even with those one or two decent bowlers which D2 do have, they're still not as good as their D1 counterparts. Tomlinson being a prime example.

Ollie Raynor drops the chance to effectively wrap this innings up.

Somerset-Glamorgan about to start. Both sides have the chance to jump above us into 4th place (albeit having played more than us).

Hopefully it will be a Glamorgan win. Their NRR is worse than ours at present, they have already played one game more than us, and there's no chance of Gayle playing for them in the KO stages should they get there.

Play has resumed at Lords. Carberry starting well post rain break.

Great end. Glamorgan win as Somerset fail to get 4 from the last 2 balls.

The south group may well look a lot clearer after Friday. Surrey v Gloucs, Middlesex v Sussex, Somerset v Gloucs, Surrey v Middlesex, Hampshire v Glamorgan, Sussex v Kent over the next five days.

Everyone will basically catch up on their games in hand over Essex. Opportunity for Surrey to be ruled out at the race, alongside Middlesex. And a chance for us and Sussex to put further daylight between ourselves and the immediate chasing pack of Somerset, Gloucs and Glamorgan - and potentially overtaking Kent at the same time.

Briggs out.

Well done Joe. And I'm happy to see he's starting to play a few shots now, because Wheal and Bird could fall at any time.

Got to give Gatting credit - he's been out of the side for a long time, and comes in with everyone else failing and gets a really good 50.

Yep. He starts next week against Worcs now, even if Ervine is fit again (Terry would presumably make way - although I don't think that Ervine will be fit. Sounds like he gets scan results tomorrow).

I still wouldn't have him in my t20 team (you don't just lose Ervine's batting with him out of the team, you lose him as 6th bowler as well - hence I'd play Dawson), but yep you can't criticise him here today.

Was there today poor batting but we had the worst of the conditions. Bsr Adams they all played themselves in and and then screwed up. Bad day.
