Not really - this is why I'm an advocate of playing Coutinho in a CM position because he can get the ball from deep, beat a player, run at defenders and ultimately create space. It's a big reason why we were so good in 13/14 because he got the ball and got it to SAS and Sterling in the final 3rd.

With Henderson - he doesn't have the ability to carry the ball and beat a man, and Milner has done it on the wing but playing in the middle is a big ask.

Can can do it but he'll be playing deeper.

But he didn't play that many in the run! He was actually more on the bench and only used there at home and sides sat right off.

Team know a high press kills us. That midfield three will be important to resolving that. Coutinho as cm won't fix that.

As regards Benteke, Anyone else think Brod wants to play his 4231 system?

Migs
Clyne - Skrtel - Sakho - Moreno
Hendo - Can
Milner - Coutinho - Firmino
Benteke

The three will create plenty of chances for the front guy including crosses from Milner.

As long as our midfield and back four are solid, I do not care the type of formation we play. The formation may change from time to time
depends on the opposition.<ok>

Benteke needs wingers to get the best out of him, I really rate the bloke but without playing a style that makes the most of his attributes I don't see why you'd want him.

If you look at our best games in that year, he was crucial in most of them.

High press kills us because Gerrard was easily targeted - surely having players who are better on the ball would ease that?

A 3 of Can, Hendo and Milner will be solid but won't offer much creativity or drive. Off the ball - I think it will be good and hard working. We need players from deep to carry the ball and provide the link to attack.

Don't get me wrong - I think the trio will finally provide us with a bit more solidity and physicality which was badly needed. But I do question it's ability to dictate, dominate and control ...

Wasn't Milner brought in to play central? If played out on the wing then I'd see the logic and I wouldn't mind his signing.

I do have concerns of having just Can and Hendo as I think both are too similar in their attacking instincts. But it would be a good experiment.

Bacca would be the much better fit imo, so I'm chuffed you're not taking him :)

However, I can see why they don't want to splash £25m on a player who'll be 29 come Sept.

Release clause is £22m - but I do agree. It's a huge outlay for someone with little resale value and offers little outside of the box.

But I would definitely take him over Benteke!

I agree but just trying to make sense of our interest. Milner is a good crosser

On TS last night they said that Sevilla had said that his buyout clause was in fact 35m Euro and not the 30m that was being reported.

Either way it's still a massive wedge for a player who'll have no sell on and maybe only a couple of top notch seasons left in him.

But you also underestimate Hendo's and Milner's abilities on the ball. They can both play a bit imo

I think you underestimate millers creativity. Yes he's no Coutinho but he linked up really well with silva and Aguero at city to create chances so no reason he can't do that same with Coutinho and firmmy for us.

They can play a bit. Bit being the operative word.

Can't speak on Milner in a CM role because he simply hasn't played there consistently in 5 years but Henderson is too inconsistent in that respect - he is certainly capable of playing some great balls and scoring good goals but I think he lacks composure. He does have it in the locker but he needs to do it more often - he DEFINITELY cannot run with the ball though.

Milner can but that's out on the wing where it's less congested. Can he do the same in the middle? ...
