Good deal for all parties. Have heard that saints wanted to deal with United from the outset on this one due to the way the deal will be structured. Great fee for us, great player for them

There are also good old sell on fees. Haven't done so well in the past from these, but now we have all those players out there in good clubs who may one day be nice little earners. Just like Palace getting an extra bonus from the sale of Clyne.

Can't really see any way of spinning Morgan's leaving as a good thing for us. Yes we'll get a decent fee, but of all the players who've left recently, he's the nearest to being irreplaceable.

Unavoidable unfortunately. If the telegraaf can be believed Koeman offered to make him the best paid player at saints to stay but we simply cant compete when the big teams come knocking. Not much we can do except trust Les and co to find a replacement.

In the end, Morgan might feel that he has to test himself elsewhere. Je ne regrette rien and all that stuff. He's the best age to move on...money will be an important factor, but, in the short career of a sportsman, it isn't the only factor.

Of course he's a big loss but we've coped well when he's been injured in the past and Les/Ron will get a great replacement.

This is what I was going to say. He was out quite a lot last year and we did okay. With Wanyama alongside, I felt the pairing was a little too safe. I'm happy (so long as Wanyama stays) that we may get a lesser player but a more effective partnership now. By effective, I mean in the attacking sense. I don't think you can get a better defensive pair.

This is true, no one can begrudge Morgan this. He probably felt last year that he had more right to a big move before Chambers/Lovren - and I'd agree with him. He still gave us another great season and he's been a great servant. I've known this day will come since League 1, he's a joy to watch and he's simply too good for us and where we are now. All the best Morgan!!

I wish I was any good at posting photos. There was a lovely photo on the OS (just after Wanyama's comments) where Fonte was helping him with his kit. Jose was all prim faced and not looking at him and Victor was looking up like a guilty and very sorry spaniel pleading innocence.

I assume it won't respond to you right clicking and doing copy/paste.?

Morgan is one that I hope goes on and becomes even better and reflects well on us and our player development. To be honest, other than Rickie, he's the only one I feel that about. The others I hope become bench-warmers, with plenty of time to rue their mistake. To use TSS's categorisation procedure, Morgan is a number 1.

This is one reason I hope he goes to Arsenal. I'd be happy to see him win the league there and people say signing Schneiderlin from the football factory at Southampton was what won them the league.

If he goes to United though, I just hope he wins the Euros with France :)
